Browsing the internet on the Macs within my college today and I found a large article on Virtual Private Networks (VPNs) and the fact that you can create a secure 'tunnel' with a business server or network. I was wondering if anyone has any experience with VPNs and was wondering if they could tell me anything about them. The guide does in fact come with a fully detailed and clear guide on how to do it and different things to take into account, and from my understanding I could possibly use this to access my files within that network, securely. Any pointers/tips?
VPNs are used to create a secure link between two private networks connected by a public network (such as the internet). I used to use them at university when I was doing something against the terms of use of their network.
Okay so that's that out of the question.. Is there anyway that I could connect to the college server and access the files remotely? I can do tracers to find IPs of any user on any website or any domain. And then I can trace that back to its physical address and pretty much see where people live, but that is irrelevant. I can use this to gain the college's IP addresses. I just want to know if there is a way to get into the college's server from an external location. We do have this thing called Studywiz, but oh my lord it is terrible.
If you have the right permissions. If they even allow you to VPN in to the schools network as well. You need to find out all the details from the school. I know at my work they disable all VPN Connections at the firewall.
You can do that just by tapping the IP address into a website that tells you that stuff. Not really l33t h4xx0r stuff. And it can only estimate the city or neighborhood, not their home address.
I did say simple remember? I didn't post this thread so I could say "hey people I know where you live." There wouldn't be any point . I just wanted to know if there was any way that I could connect to the server from an external connection. But then as LoonyLion said, they'd have that blocked at the firewall, with PPTP and L2TP connections disabled
