Click here for more information. If you're annoyed, you can do the following: 1) Open Options from the menu bar. 2) Select Emulator 3) Check the "Disable status messages" So, it's done! Yes, this doesn't happen in Windows 8/8.1 because there's no more basic theme.
An even better solution to this is to STOP USING teh older builds of VisualBoyAdvance (both 1.7.2 and 1.8 Beta 3) and switch to VBA-M which is very much actively being developed. http://vba-m.com/ You need to register an account on there yes but the emulator is hosted free of charge. I tell you somebody should put up a sticky reminding people about this.
