I've been using VBA 1.8.3 beta for a long time (it's strange nobody is working on such as brilliant project anymore).I'm generally pleased with it except the sound. In almost all games I play the sound is always crackling and generally low quality. Even I use low pass filter it doesn't help. And it is not associated with performance or video settings ; I've tried various combinations.I wish it had more sound options as in zsnes.

I've also read about some other modified Vba builds such as Vba-recording and Kode54Vba. What can you say about them ? Are they good compared to the official release ?

I think the standard questions would be:

    - Do you have an example of your problems? Like, specific rom on a specific build so others can try to reproduce it.
    - Can you PC properly support VBA, both performance/cpu wise as sound card wise? (What kind of PC configuration do you have?)
    - What kind of sound card do you have?
    - Do you also have poor sound performance in lower versions of VBA?
    - Do you also have poor sound performance in other programs?
    - What do you think is the problem?

Oh, and you probably mean VBA 1.8.0 beta 3, right?

Hehe that 's a good place to start

1-More or less happens in all games. But it can be more disturbing in games such as Breath of Fire and Summon Night Swordcraft Story

    2-Yeah, I think so
    P4 2.2 GHZ 128MB Radeon 1GB DDR Ram
I never have slowdowns or any performance related problems with VBA at 1024x768 16 Bit Display with Super2xSai

3-I've only tried 2 versions and they both seem to have same problems . They were the current one 1.8.0.3 Beta and a previous 1.7 build.

4-Nah,The sound seems to be fine in other emus and apps

5- Not really sure....maybe this is why I asked ^^ . The VBA itself ?The crackling sound doesn't go away when you lower the frequency or apply the low pass filter....Look at Zsnes , there are lots of filtering and interpolation options and we can get crystal clear sounds...

Your answers to question 1 and 2 are contradicting. You say it happens in most games, but you don't experience slowdowns or performance problems.

But if my guess is right, what kind of sound card do you have? brand & type (and I don't mean if it's onboard or not).
Did you configure the sound settings correctly?
Oh, and give me a release number of a rom that's giving you problems. That way I can test it.
