Added PointBlank DS to my R4, played for a while, when turned back on all games were written in weird symbols and were unplayable and unreadable by both DS and PC, had to reformat my card for it to work again, have tried this twice with two different SD cards, same thing happen, scanned it with AVG, didnt turn anything up, any clue whats going on?
Using the latest firmware 1.12, and have tried it on both of my DSs and different SD cards. F'd if i know whats happening.
Unfortunately ive only found the one rom so far, found in the trading section.

Sounds kind of weird but Most likely not virus. I don't think there's any virus out there that will infect a NDS rom. at least there no one will spend time to write something that will invade NDS rom. Virus don't invade any file. They are programmed by the programmer to invade specific files only or type of files only. For example, if the virus programmer programmed a virus to invade executable only. Anything like mp3, doc, etc. will not be infected. Also depends on their final purpose, because if their purpose is to ruin all executable become non executable. those executable may not be infected or carry the virus, but they maybe reprogrammed so it will not run again.

Maybe a defective firmware, try re-install the firmware and see.

^ have done that twice with two different firmwares on two different SD cards, still the same thing, id say its down to the rom.

Have you try format your SD card? and install everything from scratch?

Do you have access to another R4 and another SD card? maybe you can do a little test.

    1. 2nd R4 with 2nd SD Card as the control - same files.
    2. original R4 with 2nd SD Card - same files.
    3. 2nd R4 with original SD Card - same files.

See if any of these make any different. Oh yes, you can also add in a 2nd Nintendo DS if all else failed.

if still the same, yeah maybe the file.

^ have pretty much tried all that, unfortunately I dont have another R4 to try but it runs everything else fine, and is fine untill i load pointblank, once i load the game and turn the DS off is when the problem comes in, hence i thought it may be viral.

This exact same thing just happened to me with a different game. Weird symbols and if you select any of them it just freezes. So gay.
Can't take the file off my DS either. Only mine is on simply, not R4

I would say there's something odd with the firmware. The rom can't rename itself.

Well there do exist brickers for the DS, I can't deny the possibility of someone posting a bricker in the trade section.

what's a bricker? The thing i don't get is that i've been playing it for weeks with no problems :S

My friend's MicroSD for his DSTT has a weird file with weird symbols and he can't take it off as well, but it doesn't seem to affect anything. If your console gets "bricked", it either stops working completely or only part of it stops working. So chances are someone posted a virus or "bricker" of some sort. But when did you see the file with the symbols?

I'd download another dump of that rom and see if it does the same thing, if every dump of that game causes the same exact problem then you know it's your firmware and not a tampered rom.

Also make sure your not running Hombrew or other things. You might have another factor somewhere causing the corruption.

I've heard of DSorganize turning files into weird symbols. I've heard of a few retail roms causing corruption too.
