You will need to look up what graphics cards support bioshock.

Let's see... I have the 8800 GTX, but that's kind of expensive but will play games well. It's around $300 - $350 USD. On Newegg, at least. If you want to use an 8800 GTX, make sure you have a PCI-E x16 slot. All you have to do is stick it in, screw it in (I can't because my motherboard's crooked in the case; I'm terrible at seeing if something's crooked or not.), and install the drivers. (Also, one of the pushpins on my heatsink is not in the hole, it's too hard to reach. But I think it's secured enough to transfer heat.)

As Born2killx said, you need to find out what interface you have. There are several ways of doing this, you can look up your computer or motherboard model on the net, or a program such as PCWizard/Dr. Hardware will tell you.

As for brands, any brand should do, I would suggest you don't get an XFX card, because although they are good cards, if you have a faulty one I've been told their warranty service is less than desirable.

I'm using a Sapphire Radeon HD 3870 512MB and it runs every game that uses the UT3 engine flawlessly on max settings. That includes Bioshock.

I currently have upgraded to dual GeForce 8800 GTS 640MB cards in SLI, but I started with just one 8800 GTS 320 MB and it played Bioshock just fine. They are super cheap now compared to when they came out. You can get one for $150US or less from Newegg.com or Tigerdirect.com. Hell, for that price you could get two cards and SLI them (if your mobo supports SLI, that is). You would slam any game out there now. I upgraded to the 640MB models because I wanted a completely future-proof rig. I can play Crysis with some of the higher settings and still get around 60 FPS or better.

So, I would highly suggest anything from the GeForce 8800 series or better in order to play the newer games. Just make sure your mobo has at least one open PCI-E x16 slot (PCI-Express).

Video cards are a snap to install. It can be a daunting task at first if you have never done it before, but don't worry. You can do it. Once you do one, you will never think twice about doing it again, it is so easy.

For your sake, just do the upgrade. Bioshock is the most incredible game I have ever played in my life. Easily the most original and engrossing game that has ever been made. Truly a profound experience everyone should experience.

hey, i finally bought my video card, it is a Daimond STEALTH X1550 with 256 VRAM, please tell me that was a good choice($75). One more thing it possible to use more than one video card at the same time, if it is possilble they need to be from the same brand or doesn't matter. :p

diamond stealths were crap when I used them... like 8 years ago. I'm surprised they're still in business, although that model name sounds like they're rebranding ATI chips.
