I've got old VHS movies that I want to convert to DVD before they rot away to nothing. I got a Gigaware converter gadget and its software balks at me that the movie I'm trying to convert is copy protected! Well DUH! I've bought all my old movies, I just want to put them onto something that won't die before I do. Could somebody please tell me if there's another piece of software I can go download that my new gadget will understand and won't nag me about it being copy protected?

thats odd because VHS doesn't have copy protection

Seems like I used to take some tape and cover the tab hole on the tape, blanks have a tab there you can break off so it can't be copied over. but I just copied stuff off tv over crappy movie tapes.

don't know if that would work or not, doubt it.

They don't, but on a side note, if you try to record a movie from a PS2 or DVD player, it won't let you. :p

No, what i tried for my first one was a movie that was on one of the cable movie channels and I knew I'd like to have to so I did like most people do and put a blank tape in my VCR.

Them rental tapes 20 years ago did.You got 1 second of film, then 3 seconds of interference all the way through if you tried to copy one.....
