This thread was started in December 6th 2010, and is meant to compile anything related to Wood Firmware. Also as you can see that I do not make or upload those files in the links you see below, but merely compiling them all in 1 topic page for your convenience. I sincerely hope you find this useful. I'll update this topic periodically whenever possible.

Wood R4 "Boot Loader" from Coolkill3r for R4DS Original and R4iDSN :

You can get Coolkill3r's latest pre-made boot loader for wood R4 in his topic page, and please direct all technical issues talk there as well.

How to install WOOD R4 to your R4DS Original or R4iDSN Cart as a Secondary Firmware:
1. Download the latest [ _rpg folder] from Yellow Wood Goblin
2. Download the latest [wood loading file .nds] from Coolkill3r or make your own boot loader (see the spoiler section below under 'R4crypt.exe')
3. Copy & Paste all downloaded files to your SD Card (except the .txt files)
4. Done
5. In some cases, you might need to reformat your sd card (always remember to back up before formatting)
*Note:
For the files marked as "*Boot loader inside the package*", you just need to copy the _rpg folder, .DAT and the .nds file into you cart, no need to copy the files ending in .txt, you don't need to follow this installation guide.

For use to edit R4 and M3's cheat.dat, _ds_menu.dat, and make your own wood firmware boot loader.

How to make boot loader.nds using Microsoft Windows:
1. Create a folder name it [wood] anywhere; e.g. c:\documents and settings\wood\
2. Download the latest _rpg folder update from Yellow Wood Goblin and extract it into [wood] folder; the name of that folder would be [wood_v.X.XX] ; Note: X = number
3. Download the R4crypt.exe and extract it into the [wood] folder
4. Open the [wood] folder and move the [r4crypt.exe] only into the _rpg folder
5. Go to [START], choose [RUN], type in [cmd], and press [ENTER/OK]
6. Type in the location of your [wood] folder by adding [cd] infront; e.g. cd c:\documents and settings\wood\wood_v.X.XX ; and press [ENTER]
7. The command box left side should now read as c:\documents and settings\wood\wood_v.X.XX>
8. Now type, r4crypt.exe -d _DS_MENU.DAT WOODR4.NDS ; and press [ENTER
9. Wait until done.
10. To change back from c:\documents and settings\wood\wood_v.X.XX> , just type cd c:\documents and settings ; and press [ENTER]

How to Use :

A simple batch file that allows you to mess around with saves.

Instructions:
- Unzip
- Place the .bat file in the same folder as the saves
- Run it
- Select option

Options to select of:
- Wood R4 (Convert to *.nds.sav)
- Normal (convert BAK to SAV)
- Backup (convert SAV to BAK)
- Remove (remove *.sav)

Note - Make a backup of your saves before running this to prevent accidental data loss.

How to Use :

This quick tool will allow you quickly backup saves, rename *.SAV to sav, rename *.nds.sav to *.sav and rename *.sav to *.nds.sav. It can backup saves to your PC or to a backup directory on your MicroSD card.

When backing up saves to your MicroSD card, backups will be placed in [MicroSD Card]\Backups. Only those files that have changed will be copied, over writing those that already exist. It will backup all saves on the MicroSD card except those which already exist in the backup directory itself.

When backing saves to your HDD, this will archive them into a zip file located in [Username]\My Documents\DS-Saves. The name of the file will be the date and time of when the backup was made. All saves will be backed up except those in the backup directory on your MicroSD card.

AKAIO 1.7 uses lowercase file extensions for it's save files, it won't see those with uppercase file extensions. AKAIO 1.5.1 and earlier used uppercase SAV if the ROM filename was 8 characters or less long and so these will need to be renamed.

Some of the OSmenu's for other carts, also use uppercase file extensions for their saves. If so, they need to be renamed in order to use them with AKAIO.

The Official Acekard software normally uses *.nds.sav for it's saves, while AKAIO normally uses *.sav for it's saves. These saves will also need to be renamed if you want to use them with AKAIO.

Wood R4 uses *.nds.sav for it's save files, where as most other R4 OSmenu's use *.sav. You will have to rename them to use them with Wood.

If you are switching from AKAIO to Wood or vice versa, you will also need to rename them.

Before renaming, it will backup all save files to 'My Documents\DS-Saves\[Date]\[Time]'.

It should be able to identify your MicroSD card. All saves in root directory of your card will be renamed, and also all those in directories beneath will be renamed. If you have your games in folders, just run SaveManager and it will rename the saves in all the folders.

This will not rename an already existing *.nds.sav to *.nds.nds.sav.

This is a bundle of the wood dumping tools used to dump DS roms. Wifi and slot 2 aka GBA slot tools are available (DLDI capable rather than 3 in 1 or similar).

- wooddumper is a FTP server app. It waits for connection from FTP client

supported. Client disconnection is required for changing card to be dumped.

- wooddumper_slot2 requires DLDI-patching for your specific Slot-2 device.
If you are launching it afterwards from a Slot-1 device, BE SURE to disable
the Slot-1 device auto-patching feature. OR simply DLDI-patch with your
Slot-2 driver, then block the DLDI area from subsequent patching by using
the "dldinoap" tool (dldi.drunkencoders.com, recommended for the most up to
date DLDI drivers).

Here's How :

Getting the Cheats to Work

0) After moving USRCHEAT.DAT to the "cheats" folder of the _rpg folder, open up your DS with the R4.

1) You should be in the Wood R4 Menu. Press the "START" button.

2) Go to "SETTINGS." You should see "System Settings" on top of the pop-up. Just set any random Settings and then press "OK." Press "OK" again to ensure that you saved the settings.

3) Now restart your DS (don't use soft reset ---> turn off your DS then turn on your DS).

4) Go to "Settings" then press "R" until you see "Cheat In Game (AR)".

5) Turn "Cheat In Game (AR) ON" or else it will not work. Press "A" to confirm the Settings.

6) Go to any game and press "Y" to bring up the information about that highlighted game.

7) Press "X" to bring up the Cheats List.

8) Tick/Untick the Cheats that you want and don't want.

9) Then press "X" to Generate the .CC file (file for Cheats).

10) Press "A" and you're all set to go.

This is what I did to make the cheats work, for the final time. I'm sure that this method will work now, as I've upgraded Wood Firmware each time.

(LITTLE NOTE: If you cannot bring up the Cheats List after all these steps, then it's possible that the Game ID for a game does not match up. Please make changes with R4CCE. Also...if the Cheats List do not show up, then the little Micro SD card icon on the top right of the Touch Screen will flash. This may be useless information, but it's just to let you know.)

Questions and Answers :

Q: Which part of each Wood R4 version gets updated?
A: In normal situation, usually the files that are updated are the Wood loading file [xxxx.nds] and the database file [_ds_menu.dat].

Q: Can I just replace the _ds_menu.dat when updating my Wood version?
A: Yes, but its always recommended to replace the entire _rpg folder, including when a newer loader is available.

Q: Can I run Wood without the boot loader?
A: Yes, if you want wood as a primary firmware, because by using the boot loader makes it a secondary firmware.

Updated to the latest version as of Jan 2nd 2011 for all Wood versions except Wood for DSTWO.

Removed the filetrip links to CK3's boot loader in compliance to his term of use, and only linking to his topic page address from now on.

Please check his topic page if you need his boot loader and if you have any issue/problem running wood.

Its for Acakard cartridge R.P.G users. But I'm not sure if its compatible with Acekard 2i.
