Does anyone own one of these? I guess I am behind the times, but it has my interest but I just wonder how good it is. Had thoughts of searching torrents where I could try it out. Here is the info on the USB Extreme. I also found this as well. I guess its worth it, if it actually works.
I found USBextreme rather pointless if you need to use Swapmagic/modchip to do it. If you actually buy the disc, then it might have some use. If you have swapmagic, then why would you waste your time with HDD stuff, which has a compatibility list when you can just burn the damn game and play every PS2 game? Just my logic... But yeah, if you have the actual disc, then go ahead and kick ass. I was browsing around and apparently there are several exploits, one of which uses the Gameshark 2 v1.1/v1.2. I don't know anyone who DOESN'T have a gameshark, action replay or codebreaker, but here's how to get the exploit working on the gameshark 2. http://www.console-exploits.com/forums/showthread.php?s=40e393274738ebb93c7d4a554f588d8f&t=7566 I really want to try this now. EDIT: Crap. The exploits are just for homebrew only. Looks like you'll have to get a swap magic or something similar.
Bah! I posted all of that BEFORE I seen the HDD compatibility list just thought it would be nice seeing as I have a PS2 that the lens reader is shot in and a PS2 Slim thats having unresolved personal issues with most of my games. Thought having a HDD would resolve the lens not working. I did read about some memory card exploits most wasn't for the slim, but might try mucking about with it anyway.
My friend has taken apart both is slim and fat PS2s and cleaned them and the skipping/disc errors went away. If you played the hell out of your PS2 or played a lot of movies on it, then yeah, the laser is going to burn out. I still want to get a swap magic at least because I missed most of the PS2 era.
I've taken both of them apart and cleaned them the fat boots but when a disc is inserted it doesn't do anything just sits on the screen where the lights float around doesn't matter if its PSX,PS2,Audio, or DVD its the same. thinking I might have not hooked something up right so I checked a breakdown spec and followed it and still the same problem. Now my temperamental slim it will boot up and about the time it starts to load the game up it shuts off completely as if someone pulled the plug but the red light stays lit and when you push the power button the red light still stays lit as if its frozen, but when you pop the lid it turns green and boots up to the main screen. So I broke it down and cleaned everything and it seemed to work fine for awhile and then it starts doing it again.
