Upgrade r4 to higher version

Um hi!
I own a r4 and its version is 1.11
I want to upgrade it so games like summon night and final fantasy rings of fate work.
But i am wondering: wat will happen to my save files???
will they be erased???

 

Download the latest firmware from http://www.linfoxdomain.com/nintendo/ds/, extract it, then just overwrite your previous firmware files with the new ones(if it has any on it of course) or just put all of the files inside the english etc folder straight onto your MicroSD root, the place you are in as soon as you browse it. No, updating your firmware will not do anything to your save files or any other files other than the firmware files which are replaced.

Yes, that's the whole point of firmware, as well as extra features etc. If you've updated to the latest version and you still can't seem to load a game and play it properly, wait for new firmware.
