So I have an unusual issue I am running into. I downloaded a Wii game and tried to extract it with 7zip. It did not work as the error was "0 cannot extract to archive". That is not the exact wording. After breakfast I went back and decided to download Winrar. To my surpise, it extracted the iso. Does anyone know what may be going on? I have used 7zip for a long time and never had issues with this. Am I correct to assume that someone 7zip is associating the compressed folder wrong as an archive? If so, how would I correct this as I would rather use 7zip. Thanks
there is no solution to it at this point. Winrar created a new version of the RAR algorithm called RAR5, 7zip does not support it at this time. You will have to use Winrar until the 7zip developers implement support for RAR5.
As an update, I ran into more of these RAR5 encryption. I then downloaded winrar. They have 2 progress bars the top and bottom. On everyone of these the top bar stops at either 5% or stays at 0%. Anyone ran into this issue? It seems that my only other option is to use third party extractors but I am trying to avoid that as some have things bundled I do not want. Thanks for any advice
Winrar is first party, they created the rar and rar5 algorithms, and its compression, not encryption. The top progress bar is progress extracting the current file, the bottom is progress extracting the whole archive. With our roms/isos the two bars should go up at more or less the same rate because there's only one or two files (and only one of any significant size) in the archive.
Sorry to say, No 3rd party extractor can extract a rar5 so far. if you are new to winrar, i recommend watching youtube videos or using their site to learn the function on what they do. Never hurts to read the manual for new stuff(metaphorically). Also no extractor will extract an unfinished download so make sure its the right size before extracting.
Just a followup on this rar5 for others. This will help both users and the site itself from wasting bandwidth. I am also glad to see that a notice was put in the downloads on the rar5. But I have some advice below. So as I previously stated the progress bars were stuck either at 0% or 5%. So what I did instead was move these zip files to my desktop computer which does run an i7 core. I figured maybe it would handle it better. Initially, the same thing happened where no progress bars were advancing. But with my i7 after about a minute or so, the progress bars jumped up to 92% and then completed. So basically, winrar for some reason shows no progress for rar5 files in my cases between 5% and 92%. On the other hand with my laptop, I had it sitting for a long time with no progress. So for those having these issues with a slower computer please just let it run and finish. Depending on the file size it may take a few minutes to maybe a bit more. But winrar is working even though the GUI is not showing it is. And as a tip 7zip is alot more efficient for any other files. The speed difference is great on both my computers. So when 7zip cannot open a rar5 I then use winrar for those. But this is my experience between the 2 so your preferenes may differ.
Hello all. Anybody else having issues with corrupt rar or end of archive missing with certain wii games? I had a few and realised i was only running version 4 of winrar so i updated to 5.21 and had some success but Alone in the Dark still seems to be corrupt even though i downloaded it twice??
Alone in the Dark should be 4.11 GB or roughly 4.401.853.918 bytes in RAR format. Did you when the download completed received the package at that size? If not, then maybe your download was broken, if so, maybe try using a resume-able download manager such as IDM or Flashget. I can't test download for you, too big a file that would require 15 hours for my shitty internet connection to download. But I checked, it doesn't seems to be broken. Maybe when Loony comes around, he could double check just in case I'm mistaken.
99% of the time the file is fine. Most times it is cause people do not double check to make sure they are doing it correctly. Most times its cause the file is not 100%done but the download finishes to early. Sucks when you are 98% and it just quits.
