What is their difference from a laptop and a Ultra mobile pc?

Are these cellphones that can function as a pc?

an ultra mobile is a very small laptop. (not to be confused with netbooks, which are cheaper and much lower spec). Some ultra mobiles have phone capabilities built into them.

some cellphones have PC-like functionality (editing documents and the like, albeit not very well). These are called smartphones.

so these ultra mobiles are mostly like laptops, but cheaper than the netbooks.. ah, i thought its like a laptop but higher specs and even have longer battery life cause of the word "Ultra"....

do you own one of these and mostly what do you think about it? is it worth buying or just stick with a netbook/laptop?

ultra mobiles are very expensive. I'm personally saving up for a sony ultra mobile (vaio TT series) since my sister has a TZ and it's awesome. (when I first unpacked it to set it up for her it nearly flew out of my hands its so light compared to what I'm used to). What you should get really depends on what you want, I'm all for battery life (my sister's TZ gets about 7 hours with a normal battery, the TT is quoted for 9 hours) and portability.

Also while we're on this subject, I have a device that was the forerunner of these UMPCs.

Made in the UK in the early 1990s, it was the forefather of PDAs and UMPCs. It runs for about a month on 2 AA batteries, has a 4mhz processor and anything between 128KB and 2MB of ram. Accessories included a modem and games, as well as memory expansion packs.

I say a nokia phone and its like a mobile pc. a pc and a phone all in one.

you put your sim card on it and you can talk and chat on it using your phone provider. you can get signals anywhere.
