its probably not a good idea cos it would be real difficult to boot from it. If this is because of the virus in your windows install, then try this: http://housecall.trendmicro.com

This article might help you out: http://www.pendrivelinux.com/2008/05/08/usb-ubuntu-804-persistent-install-tutorial/#more-387 But, my experiences with installing Ubuntu/ any of the big Linux distros on USB drives haven't been pretty, believe me. It works, but get ready for a whole lot of mucking with terminal commands . If you just want Linux on a stick, I recommend Puppy Linux (http://www.puppylinux.org), which is by far the easiest to put on USB. Instructions are here: http://www.puppylinux.org/wiki/how-tos/easy/intall-puppy-a-usb-drive-using-unetbootin-puppy-40-windows
O-o so...many.....commands, but i guess it will be worth it so that i dont have to install and reset all of my settings, but how do i know which usb drive is which?
When in Windows, go to My Computer, and then plug in your USB, if done right, a new port will appear which will have the name of the USB.
I have BackTrack 3 Final installed on my 4 GB flash drive, and Clonezilla installed on my 256 MB flash drive. Both needed a batch file to be run to make it bootable, but both had a version made exclusively for the flash drive. Meh.
