    Hi guys.

Here is a tutorial on how to make a gloss effect in GIMP. This is my first so be patient.

First, fill the image with a color like so. In this tutorial, I will use the colors black and white on a 370x140 canvas, but you may feel free to experiment.

Next, do an elliptical select similar to the one shown below. I found that long elliptical selection work the best, but you can do whatever you want.

Finally, select blend. You will now create a vertical gradient. Click and drag from the bottom of the middle of the selection upwards until you want to stop. For a normal effect, drag it to the top of the image, like shown in the picture below. For a more subtle effect, drag it above the border of the image. For a quick change in colors, drag it below the border of the image.

You now have a glossy layer!

This is how I recommend you place it in your image and what modes to use, but you can do whatever you want to do.
Normal/Overlay - All other layers (C4D's, Render, Effects, etc.)
    Overlay - Background
    Screen - Glossy
