So, I remember playing Septera Core back in the day, and got to thinking. Turn based RPGs are rare for the PC . Anyone know any games to try out? (Not MMOs).

I'm trying to find Anachronox right now, and have Septera Core.

Jagged Alliance is probably my favourite in that genre.

not if you've played the PSX version, the PC version is just a straight port.

Well crap, I was going to suggest Atlantica Online. Its the only turn based rpg for PC that I know of that hasnt been said here, but its a MMO.

I have to second the Jagged Alliance 1 and 2. Best on the PC imo.

Fallout 1,2 and Tactics could fall under that category. The Last Remnant, Drakensgard are both new releases that are turn based. I think Y's, the latest one was also released on PC and Phantasy Star although I am not sure if they are turn based.

So The Last Remnant came out about a month ago and I finally got it. It is easily the best turn based RPG I have played on the PC. Fantastic game and it is much butter than the 360 version.

Sorry to bump an ancient thread but its exactly what I wanted to ask.
So is Anachonox any good? Ive seen/heard a lot of good things about it, apparantley it borrows a lot from FF?
Also looking for any other FF style games.

I found, and played Anachonox a little bit.

It wasn't very fun (in my opinion). Apparently you cannot really "grind" in the game, there are only a set number of fights. Once you battle the enemies in one area, they don't appear again. This wasn't a good thing for me. I played it for about an hour and quit.

So far Septera Core is the only one I've enjoyed. Fallout 1, 2, and Tactics didn't really hold my attention. I didn't try Seph's suggestion of Jagged Alliance. The whole real army thing didn't really appeal to me.

    So no deal?

In reality. There are tons of RPGs for PC. But most I ever heard about are for example, typical japanese love novels.

I wouldn't exactly categorize your Japanese dating sim/hentai games as RPGs though. At least, not in the common use of "RPG". (Yes, in those games you are "playing" the "role" of a pervert who is trying to score with everything with boobs and a heart beat.)

Have you eevr tried World Of Warcraft III? Starcraft II?
Also there's one that needs a powerful hardware, the FALLOUT3, great games those.

Fallout 3 is not really turn based. That VATS system doesn't really make it turn based.

It's not "World of Warcraft III" it's Warcraft III. And those games are not Turn based RPGs, they are Real Time Strategy.

Stuff built with the Infinity and Aurora Engines can technically be played in a turn-based manner. Have you considered playing Baldur's Gate 2? It's not strictly turn-based but you can pause the action using Space to set up spells and attacks and such.

Empire total war is almost pure turn base if you want it to be.
