What is the truth about copying(ripping) wii games and burning them to dvd?

Some say you must have a special lg burner, software companies say you can do it with any burner as long as you buy their software. They also claim the software reads, decrypts and burns the image with 1:1 quality. What is the real answer and if it is possible with any type of burner and just software, which one? How complicated is it? Do a lot fail? Is it time consuming?

I've never been comfortable with downloading something online for hours and hours like torrents are said to take for wii games, but if you tell me that downloading ISO's is superior to copying them, I guess I could learn the process and places and just take meds to calm my nerves. ;)

I have 3 damaged games that have made me question replacing or finding an alternative and probably backing up others that get played alot and could be damaged in the future.
I just need to know if it is worth the money to get started to copy and burn some games or just replace the 3 games and then put all the games under lock and key.

Oh, I do have a mod chip but know nothing about it since I don't talk with the person I bought the system from. Thanks in advance
