Tried to Update Firmware, now my R4 won't work.

I've had my R4 for about 7 months and it's been working great for all that time. Recently I wanted to play Meccha Taiko and I got the "Save file could not be read" message, so I followed the instructions in the "read me first" thread and tried to update my firmware. NOw, I just get stuck at a Loading... screen. I tried formatting and reinstalling the old firmware again, but it didn't work. My DS still plays regular games, but it gets stuck when the R4 tries to load. Help?

 

That once happened to me, I just took out the cartridge and the SD and inserted then back in "harder" and "better" you could say... and it started working >_>

 

Followed the tutorial, still no good. Anyone one else had this problem or have any suggestions?

 

Make sure that the problem isnt your microSD card, do you have another one to see if it works then?

That happend to me too. All I had to do was re-download kernel v1.18 and deleated the new one, v1.21, and it worked just fine.

 

you might not have replaced all the files for the firmware, so you may have two firmwares

what kernal version and from what website are you using??

tried 1.18, then reformatted and tried to go back to 1.17 but it doesn't want to work again

Just a quick point the official firmware for the R4 is v1.18, the v1.21 is for the cloned R4sdhc

 

After some stressing I did some research about r4 clones/fakes, and it turns out I have an R4 III. I got the correct drivers and it works fine now. Maybe you can add that to the read this first section? and maybe a link to a tutorial on how to figure out if you have a real R4

 

Well it's not too hard to figure out what exact flashcart you have, and how to get the firmware for it.
