    Hello-I have a question...

See, I'm thinking about upgrading from vista (or shoving it off a cliff..) and going to windows 7.

Now the thing is...what about my game saves?

resident evil 5...v8 super cars 3...quake 4 (took forever to install it the first time-then I needed a patch since window's vista don't support :( )...

I'd like to retain the game data so i don't have to beat them again-most aren't finished as I hardly play the pc one's-only when my main consoles are in use.

So, how do I save these-and will they work when I re-install them again?

(and will these games work in windows 7-the idiot who sold me quake 4 said to use compatibility mode-bull crap I had to patch it because it wouldn't recognise the cd after the install :( )

    Any ideas?

generally you find where the saves are kept, back them up then restore after reinstalling the game on the new OS. the only games I've not been able to transfer saves for are FFVII and FFVIII (which are PSX ports) and Duke Nukem 3D (which is a DOS game).

so..find the folders of the saves...back them up somewhere...and place them back in?

Seems easy enough...but what worries me is...how do i know what to look for?

I though i found some save data for re5...but at 22kb-is this the right one?

    Hrm...i'd have to explore...

    Thanks looney once again :)

Did you find that from your My Document folder?

If that's where you find it, then yes.

My RE5 is installed into my third partition of my hardisk(2 Hardisk).
So, I have no worries about backing up my game files when I want to format my desktop. ;D

The save files usually aren't really big mds, so you can be sure that 22kb sized file is a save file.

and I'm sure that, if your games is from the Original DVD's....
then, most of the saves is in the My Document...
Unless, you use Warez....which most of it have scattered save files. ;D

All inside that one is an empty folder called "maps" :(

    Wow...something learnt XD

    Thanks guys!

(ps-if i let a new game save...can I rip out the newer saves and insert my new ones-just incase i forget where they should go XD)

By the way, not all games usually saved in My Documents.
Some games keep the save files at the folder where you install them, just be careful about it.

painkiller stores its saves in application data, which is rather annoying.

almost all of the EA games stored their saves in My Documents, right?
