While doing my regular scans, i always gets those tracking cookies. I was wondering, what are those? Well, AVG Free doesnt detect it as a threat, but well, it whistle when detecting one. And i get like more than 25+ tracking cookies. Its like a symphony.

cookies save information from the internet so you dont have to login again and again when you visit sites and when the firefox asks you if you would like to remember passwords and usernames

Tracking cookies are usually cookies set by advertising agencies, like the ads RomUlation runs. They're called "tracking cookies" because advertising agencies often use them to tailor ads according to the sites you visit. Like, if you visit a lot of gaming sites they'll show you an ad for a new game instead of an ad for a new children's toy.

Generally I don't bother removing them, especially because they can have a positive effect such as limiting advertising, for instance the RomUlation pop ups are set to show no more than twice a day, so they use this cookie to make sure it doesn't. But if you delete it then they'll just keep popping.

ah, thanks. so almost all the site i visit gets a tracking cookie.. cause i got at least 25...
but are tracking cookies responsible for the slowness of a program? like if i watch a clip on youtube and its slows down or stop-go-stop, are the cookies responsible for it?

The reason why avg tells you about them is because they can and are used malicously. but most are legit trackers from ad agencies as seph pointed out. also note that cookies and tracking cookies are different in that standard cookies keep all info on your machine while tracking cookies have a habit of sending info to other online machines.

ah, ok. thanks for answering my queries. i thought it was the culprit for slowing my viewing of youtube. so i thought i need to defrag. but i scanned first my pc, then more than 25 tracking cookies were detected, but didnt know what "tracking" cookies were. so i removed them and tried to defrag but defrag said it was not needed, so i thought the tracking cookies were at fault.

    thanks again!
