I have a Toshiba Satellite. When ever I'd move the screen back, it would completely shut off. No warning or anything. It'd just crash. The battery is working fine, still holding about 6-7 hrs of battery life. It's also very hard to start after it does this. I'll have to remove and replace the battery a lot and sometimes that doesn't even work. One interesting thing to note: when the battery is in, and the power cord is also plugged in, the battery charges. BUT when I move the screen and it shuts down, the charging light goes off. In other words, when it does this shutdown thing, the battery stops charging. Not sure if it's related or not. It is NOT overheating; it's actually running incredibly cool. I haven't had it overheat once on me and it's only been hot on my lap maybe 2 times and when it got like that I shut it down and let it sit for a bit. Any advice for me? My laptop's warranty expired so i can't send it in. Thanks in advance! Sorry for the long read. I really appreciate any help you're able to offer me. PS : i don't really have enough money to buy a new one right now.
sounds like hardware damage. one of the laptops in this house has a cracked motherboard and exhibits similar symptoms. (works fine when its on the table but if it gets knocked or moved it locks up). Has it been dropped or suffered a fall?
Nope, it never fell as far as i'm aware of. actually at first the screen turns really dark when the screen is moved so i have to adjust it to make it bright again. then after a week this problem occured.
thats a hardware problem, you could always take the chance and crack that thing open and have a look yourself, but i dont recommend it unless you're at the end of your rope..or you've done it before.. you're only gonna make it worse if you dont have it looked at soon, other things like your hard drive could be damaged in the process..not to mention your sanity
ideally the manufacturer. Laptops generally use custom hardware and are specific to the manufacturer so theres actually very little your average computer shop can do with them.
he's right.... even though it may cost you like $70-100 to send it to them, it'll save you from spending more on a new laptop
ok, thanks a lot Post Merge: [time]1274650698[/time] Sorry to bump, but i dismantled the laptop myself since the store was closed and i had nothing else to lose, so i was like "ah whatever". so i took off the screen part, i messed with the wires, put electric tape, take off electric tape , put it on again , take it off, cover the whole wire with it, take all the tape off again, and it actually worked!!!!!!! no more black screen and sudden shut off!!
