Role-Playing games have been ever popular amongst gamers for a long time now, they keep us playin for hours on end.

from the ever so popular Zelda series to the Star Ocean games, they all have a tale to tell and keep us drawn with the gameplay they offer, the gameplay makin the game friendly to those not so keen on the story included (because not everyone plays them for the story :p), it's still my favourite game genre to date without a doubt.

Ok, now. onto the games :D

(i'll try and keep any spoilers to a minimum)

    5 - Final Fantasy V/Vi
    |I put V/VI there because i just can't decide between the 2, I enjoyed both games on the same level lol :p.
Although I never got the chance to play it on the orignal system I did however play it on the PSX bundled with FFVI and I must say, this game was awesome after I finished it. what kept me playin (aside the awesome story) was the great job system it had, my faves beein the blue mage/monk (although I did enjoy the dragoon job class too) and the great ending to the game was a nice finish, then there was Final Fantasy VI, a great accomplishment graphicly, definently one of the most advanced games released on the snes, the summons themselves were mind blowing they really did the game justice there, the game is pretty tough to boot which is awesome if you're like me and like a good challenge, very good battle system and a rewarding story that comes to a great ending, plus the main villain ACTUALLY accomplished what he set out to do, destroy the world ;), characters were well created too.

4 - The Legend of Zelda - A Link To The Past
    |Like the Secret of Mana I go back every now and then to finish the game once more (1 or 2 times a year at least)
very good graphics for a game on a 16-bit console and the puzzles were a challenge and kept you playin longer, collectin all those weps/gear was a major part too and how you got certain upgrades for each part (tunic, bombs, sword etc) and time travel to the dark world was innovative to say the least.

    3 - Final Fantasy VII
    |Always popular with rpg fans, if not beein the most popular for most fans the game while not beein a techincal achievment did offer alot of great bg art, epic story made this game reach my 3rd spot as you finish the game you really appreciate it,the moment it was first released I loved the game, the limit break system itself played a good in the game (aside the materia system) an made the game more enjoyable (I still think Omnislash is the most epic limit break to date ,Lionheart beein a close 2nd) but I must say however I did enjoy Final Fantasy VIII on the same level but I didn't enjoy the story as much as VII.

2 - The Legend of Zelda - Ocarina of time
    |This was a hard one as it was ever close to stealin the number 1 spot but it is VERY close, when the game was first released everone with an N64 had this game (aside Goldeneye of course lol) learnin the catchy songs on your ocarina to help you throughout the game (Epona's beein the most catchy, I'll remember that song til the day I die) and the gear system that was incoprorated from lttp was again a great part of the game, and the dungeons/temples man, a challenge but awesome upon finishin it, then headin to the temple of time to switch between kid and adult link, just an awesome game every rpg fan has played (and if you havn't go play now!) epic game.

    1 - Chrono Cross
    |Undoubtfully my favourite RPG of all time, If they ever make a sequel/remake of this game I would buy it in a shot , even over the Final Fantasy VII remake if they ever make it that is. Everything about this game just made me love it more so than others, namely the story itself where you journey through the game acquiring lot's of characters (LOT's :O), also had the time travel system popular on the Zelda series which in itself made the game more enjoyable, very good CG in the cutscenes for a psx game they really did well there then there's the battle system that remains one of the best to date (1,2,3 attack system is still my fave) the element system was similar to the materia system in Final Fantasy VII and like Final Fantasy VII played a major part in the game. then there's the summon system which i personally prefer over the Final Fantasy Series as in the FF you can use them over and over again even in just the 1 battle whereas Chrono Cross you need to plan more and it is used less often, which was the main reason I did short play in FF VIII I was just seein them too frequently. Then there's the Tech system (limit breaks pretty much) especially towards the end you get some real mind-blowing/epic even scenes with them. i'd like to say more but i'd just be releasin spoilers so i'll stop :p, after havin said that about CC I feel like playin it now (seriously lol :D)

That's just my two cents, there's plenty other games i'd put up there but this is the top 5

feel free to post your top 5 (no long descriptions like mine needed) :p

Chrono trigger wooped most of those games asses. Also last time I checked LoZ: OOT was the highest ranking game in the world, followed closely by bioshock.

V? Meh, not that great. Loved CT, and CC. Cahos, I loved Lufia 2, a lot better than the first one, there were a lot better puzzles, such as that hard one involving the circles and where you had to change their colour to match to get to the next area. Link to the Past was okay, quite bad for a Zelda though. I'd say Oracles were better.

Dark Cloud 2 was great as well. Too bad Rouge Galaxy was such a let-down.

    newbie here!

    Suikoden Games are the best!

Suikoden II is on the top and I can't decide the positions of the others. lol.

  9. Cahos Rahne Veloza

Cahos Rahne Veloza The Fart Awakens

anand, were you able to get every treasure chest on every dungeon in Lufia 2? There are some areas where I think I got everything but the treasure detector thing still goes beep beep beep. And the hardest puzzle for me in that game was the one where you need to cut all the weeds shaped like an arrow all at the same time to open the door to the next level.

.I also couldn't complete all of the Iris treasures in Gruberik cave, the lowest floor I got to using my real SNES hardware was the 89th floor, and it really sucked to not have save states then :'(

Just a question, have you ever played it? The story is epic, and the characters are deveolped in almost every detail. The graphics are somewhat dated, but at the time they were cutting edge. The game was and is fun to play. Not to mention the score from Nobuo Uematsu was some of his finest work. The combination of everything in the game evoked a connection with the characters that you actually felt like you knew them and cared for them. In my opinion, Square's finest work.

  18. Cahos Rahne Veloza

Cahos Rahne Veloza The Fart Awakens

I played FF7, the story was OK I guess, it's not as awesome as FF6.

I definitely didn't like Aerith, heck I even rejoiced when she died (I actually would have wanted to fully control Cloud during the bit he was posessed by Sephiroth & was about to kill Aerith while she was praying to release the Holy materia, but good thing Sephiroth came down finishing her off. I was actually shouting "woohoo go Sephiroth! Die you worthless girl!").

She's so "traditional" girlie girl, Tifa was more my type. And how come everyone bought that lame love interest thing between Cloud & Aerith? Tifa was obviously more compatible with Cloud.

And yeah, Sephiroth is an awesome villain as well, Environmentalists will surely hate him for sending Meteo out to destroy the planet.
