Personally, my fave five are:

1. TWEWY
2. Devil Survivor
3. Mario and Luigi: Bowser's inside story
4. Kingdom Hearts
5. Final Fantasy XII: Revenant Wings.

I don't really know any that can beat any of those but im open for ideas.

Final Fantasy X - NO RPG can top this masterpiece by Square Enix. Excellent characters, amazing and bewildering plot twists, and a story better than the Bible, Harry Potter and The Da Vinci Code put together.

Kingdom Hearts I - A unique RPG series created by Square Enix and Disney, a coupling never before imagined or seen before. The characters, excluding of course the unchangable Disney ones, were mature and developed throughout the story, which was also superb. Unfortunately, Kingdom Hearts : Chain of Memories and Kingdom Hearts II did not follow this trend.

Rogue Galaxy - Another unique RPG, this time created by Level-5, creators of the Dark Cloud and Professor Layton series. Diverse characters and a long story and challenging story, this game broke the bounds of the typical console fantasy RPG with its Sciene Fiction genre.

Mass Effect - A science fiction RPG made after Rogue Galaxy by Bioware. Highly detailed backstories and a choice-based story, your character was made by your decisions. This was built upon the system in Knights of the Old Republic, which I have left from this list due to its unoriginality, being its base of Star Wars. This game was also new for me, being that it was shooter-esque, rather than turn based.

Instead of having a fifth, I shall give you an example of a bad RPG.

Final Fantasy VII - This is an everlasting icon to show that Square Enix CAN actually do wrong, along with Final Fantasy X-2. Despite its grating characters with whiny storylines and thin scripts, it miraculously managed to garner a colossal fanbase, which is insane. Which lead to Square Enix making the god-awful mistake of SEQUELS. This also shows that the consumer is not always right. I won't venture any further into my loathing of the game, other than the following sentence. Sephiroth is the worst antagonist of all time, if you value him as your favourite character, you are an imbecile.

Lol, it doesn't matter anymore about it being specifically to the ds. In this case, i will rethink my rpg faves.
1. TWEWY - no matter what, this original game will always be at the top of my list.
2. The Elders Scrolls IV: Oblivion - possibly in the top 10 greatest games ever created.
3. Kingdom Hearts on all platforms
4. Final Fantasy Series
5. The Mario RPG series
