I don't think that there is any way to make component RCA plugs work with a composite RCA jack.

they don't plug in to those sockets, no. The sockets on your TV are composite video and audio, that is the video is on one cable (yellow) and the other two are audio. The plugs on the end of your s-video cable are component video, meaning all three are video, and the red, green and blue channels are separate. You have the wrong cable.

I doubt you'd get the cable at an electronic store, they're specific to the graphics adaptor. can you post a photo of the cable you've got?

yes, that is a component video cable. You can get devices to convert component to composite, but they're fairly specialised and probably not worth the expense for what you want it for.

You want an Svideo to RCA adapter.

    Like this one:
    http://www.amazon.com/StarTech-com-S-Video-Composite-Adapter-inches/dp/B0009EXWQQ
    or
    http://www.amazon.com/Hosa-S-Video-Breakout-Adapter-Connector/dp/B000WETER4/ref=sr_1_23?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1236997528&sr=1-23

Depending on whether you need female or male RCA, or female or male S-Video.

One of these came with my video card a few years back, and I used it to send video to my TV from my PC.

that is assuming the jack on the card is an actual S-Video connector, the one on my radeon 9600 pro was a proprietary connector that looked like svideo but wasn't

I'm finding it hard to identify that round connector, it's definitely not S-Video, which looks like [IMG], but it seems not to have enough pins to be the radeon 9 series video out connector (looks like [IMG]. How many pins does the connector have (picture looks like 6, but it's not clear enough to be sure)?

you could always do what i do and use an s-video to scart like this
    http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/2M-S-VIDEO-SVHS-S-VHS-3-5MM-SCART-PC-TO-TV-AV-CABLE-KIT_W0QQitemZ230329579209QQcmdZViewItemQQptZUK_Computing_CablesConnectors_RL?hash=item230329579209&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14&_trkparms=72%3A1690|66%3A2|65%3A12|39%3A1|240%3A1318

    my 9600 pro had s-video ?

I could get S-video out of the card, but I had to use a special converter cable that came with the card
