Things I need to know [3DS Help]

Okay, so I just bought a 3DS today, the special edition Zelda Ocarina of Time one. It's charging right now, and I'd like some info regarding certain topics.

1. Can I use my DS's R4 (Original) on it to play DS games?

2. How do I check my 3DS's firmware version

3. Does my 3DS automatically download the latest firmware version? If so, can I/how do I prevent it from automatically updating?

4. Any general things I should be aware of when it comes to system updates and all that.

Any help is appreciated. Oh, as for the games I got, I have OoT 3D, Mario 3D land, Mario Kart 7, Cave Story 3D and Pokemon Rumble.

 

As far as I know 3DS doesnt auto update, also WHEN DID CAVE STORY COME OUT ON 3DS!?!

2) At the Systems Settings the 3d screen bottom right
3) No, you can update using the systems settings. It doesn't do it automatically.
4) It can block flashcards.

 

I dunno. I saw it in the shop.

I've seen people talk about certain flashcards working on it. Which ones do?

 

The ones with an i, that worked with the dsi, such as R4i and TTDSi

 

Ez Flash Vi, I own that one myself. It is pretty good but it isn't the best of the best.
They are a bit slow on the update side.

 

It does not auto update, but buying certain [newer] games will force you to update before playing
