I got the "Yellow Light of Death" for my PS3. My brother was playing Battlefield: Bad Company 2 when the PS3 shut off and the yellow light showed up. Then the PS3 was flashing red lights repeatedly, and now it does not turn on... We opened up the PS3 and got the game out... Darn I feel so bad...

    That sucks...
I've never heard of that happening to someone that I've heard about.
    Only in stories and wikipedia.

    LOL!

    What exact system?

    Pal 60gb, nstc 80gb, slim???

The pal 80gb I bought second hand did go like this, you can ethier rip open the console and apply some thermal paste to help it...or ring sony and let them do it.

If you get the system working, backup your saves before sending the game to sony, or else they are lost.

There are guys local to me that claim to be able to repair "YLoD" but I don't know the procedures of the repair but they charge around 30-40 bucks. You might try looking in your area and see if any game shops offer repairs.

they offer it, but it costs 150$ Lol. I'm not willing to pay for that, so we might just get the Slim when there is a special deal with extra games or something..

Apparently the yellow light of death has started happening with a lot of the older PS3's after the most recent update.

Same thing, light pops up, system failure.

    Sometimes it does.

Looks like your gonna end up paying for the repair...

They'd just apply some thermal paste and clean the motherboard.

I seen some youtube vids, one by a guy who does it for a living, if I find it I'd link it here...

It's a 4 part vid, takes 2 hours, but you need the right tools and the ability to be able to handle delicate stuff.

I attempted to, but I don't have the tools... I don't wanna mess around with the PS3, 'cause I arleady did and it's in bad condition now... I'm seriously considering the Slim, because I don't want to put all my PS3 games to waste...

Please do, I think I can get a PS3 with YLOD fairly cheap and give me something to tinker with.

If you can get it running, do a full backup of the drive.

If none of the contents is copy protected, you can use that on another ps3 (just be sure to deactivate it's online crap before doing so :) )
