When downloading NDS roms I got speeds between 20 and 40kb/s. I couldn't go on any other pages of Romulation.net while it was downloading either, just wouldn't load. The rest of the internet worked fine though. Any way I can speed this up or troubleshoot my problems?
No currently it isn't possible, this is a temporary server that only allows 1 connection per user. Soon we'll move back to our first server and keep the current (second) server as a file server and set it to allow a few more connections. That should speed it up some. But besides, this server is on a shared 1024mbit while the other is on a shared 100mbit, it's also with the same provider so it should be A LOT faster!
I got 250kb/s downloading the firmware for the M3 so the connection I used can handle it, but it wouldn't go any faster than 20-40kb/s with this site. I'm from Canada... where is the server located?
You might have just come at a bad time of the day, since there's been times when it'll go over 200 for me and other times when it'll go around the speed you had. It really depends on how many people are downloading ROMs/ISOs off the site at that point from what I can tell.
both our servers are in chicago. Asmadi is correct in that speeds will be heavily dependent on server/connection load.
The primary audience of this site is US visitors, so visiting on times when the US is asleep or working etc will mean you get faster download speeds. Right now the load is only 16mbit/sec but at peak time we use our full 50mbit/sec.
That's the problem. Canada shares timezones with the US, and since I can't download at home, I have to do it during the day at the library or something. The time I tried the other night was 7pm or something, which is 6:30pm in NB, NS, PEI and Labrador, 5:30pm in New York and other eastern states & Canadian provinces, 4:30pm in central, 3:30pm in the mountain time zone and 2:30pm in California, Oregon, Washington, British Columbia, etc....................................................................................... Are those peak hours?
yes they will be; all the americans will be home from work and slowing the internet down for everyone
Yay. We pay $5 a month. That's enough for another $300 per month dedicated server for premiums... sarcasm.
Actually you pay $5 every other month... but if every American here paid $5 every other month then we'd be rich and could provide an awesome service to everyone.
