    Right, I just got this game (original) and I have a question. Team Fortress and all the other rubbish that comes with it. Do you require to log in to steam in order to play the game? Because everytime I open the application, it updates itself through steam. Is there sort of an off-line mode you can play?

    Not as far as I know, steam is an anti-piracy system.

    Even half-life requires you to log in on steam. Well that sucks.... 170bucks down the drain.
