sony will try to push for it but most people will ignore it because there is one thing that people will probably laught at.

you're talking crap again. 3D is what games have been aiming for from the outset, and you're just jealous that your precious nintendo aren't doing it first.

I personally couldnt care less because I don't have stereoscopic vision so I cant use 3D stuff.

when you read a book, i hope you're reading the book for what the book has to offer to the reader and not for the special type of fonts, or the type of paper, the style the book is written, or the special writings that is implemented or etc.... i hope when people who read books, read books for the contents of the book. the story, the creative imagination that triggers the readers mind, etc.... those are important.

good books are immersive. Same goes for games, 3D contributes to that.

As a buyer of chapbooks from small publishers -Subterranean Press and others of that ilk- I do take notice of paper-stock, cover artist and other "extras" that are not available in mass-market/trade paperback versions. Same as comics. Granted I still enjoy reading Penguin Classics-which are as plain a book as is possible to publish-but I love and revere my limited editions. As Loonylion points out 3D will add to the total experience. (Like the 3D version of The Nightmare Before Christmas).

I bet if Nintendo were leading the charge to 3D ultra would be championing them from the sidelines.

Loonylion, I've only got 15% vision in one eye due to an industrial accident and have never been able to see those "Magic Eye" 3D hidden pictures, but if I watch a 3D movie wearing the special glasses the 3D effect works. I'm not sure how the 3D tech will be implemented with the new TVs but hopefully we will both be able to enjoy the show.

In closing I just wanted to say that the first time I played my Wii was the closest I've come to the feeling of discovering videogames some 30 odd years ago. What I am most dismayed about is that the Wii has so dismally failed to live up to its potential.

I would guess that Sony and Microsoft make their profits not so much from sales of the console as from licensing 3rd parties to be able to develop for it. Perhaps Nintendo clear enough of a profit on console sales alone as to not have to worry as much about 3rd party support. But I could be wrong on this point and, if I am, I will wait for Ultra (in his inimitable yet poorly worded-style) to tell how wrong I am.

3-D (as in 3-D glasses) is quite a gimmick. You have to wear glasses just to play the game(s)!

Loonylion: Don't make blatantly false presumptions like that. Gaming's first and primary goal was to deliver entertainment that you could interact with; to be different from movies, TV, music, and books. That's what sets gaming apart; not a set of 3-D glasses.

you shouldn't need 3-D to immerse yourself in a game, a good game should be able to do that all on its own.

    No you don't.

Though this is new tech so comes with a serious price tag. Give it 10 years and 3D will be everywhere no glasses required.

I have to disagree and agree at the same time here...

    Disagree

-Loony-nintendo did have that "virtual boy" despite it being a comercial failure...
-Ultra-people will stand up and look at this...

    Agree

-Ultra-Maybe the hard core nintendo gamers like I once was would
-Loony-I think he is talking crap ::)

Seriously Ultra, while I'm loyal to nintendo, I enjoy everything about gaming, if there is a game I really want I'd do whatever I can to play a certain game, dead space and resident evil 5 JUST run on my laptop, and for everything else...

I have a chipped second hand ps2 and psp-sony hasn't recived any of my money-only eb games and namco/capcom who make some of their games.

If they bring out a ps3 modchip and the cost for making backups becomes cheap I might consider this option.

Step out of the box-YOUR MAKING US HARDCORES LOOK BAD!
    Everyone has a different opinion.

Personally I'd hate to wear those things-I hated those #-D movies...uncomfortable and barly visable effects to my eyes (even bloody valintine)...

As for the book comments, agreed-it's the content and not the look that brings people in.

As long as the book doesn't have spelling grammer errors (or glitches or 5 generations back type graphics depending on type of game) then I'm cool with it.

    Natewlie A bag of tricks

I actually think 3d is cool, I think it'd be cooler in homes and in video games.

Although, I'd MUCH prefer headtracking (skip to 2:30 if you don't want to hear him talk). The thing with headtracking though is that only one person can do it at a time. Although anyone could use headtracking, well, except blind people of course.

I think it's way too early to judge if this is a fad or a gimmick, but it's something I would like to have in the future. Now with 3D stuff coming in color and polarized glasses and now there's TVs that don't need glasses, wow, I think that's some cool stuff. While cool, it's not particularly useful and it doesn't add that much. We have a Virtual Boy here and I've played through Wario Land, Mario Tennis and Mario Clash, the 3D in them was just alright. It was cool, but didn't add anything.
