well i notice that how old song (90s, 70s and older) is much better then any of the so call number 1 hits on the chart now day.....

it make me feel like we dont have any talented artist anymore.

and the west isnt only place face this problem, even in HK and Malaysia......

so is the music industry getting sucker as time past? i think so, what do you think?

yes, standards are indeed dropping, and the actual talent is staying underground for one reason or another.

even one of the old-gen singer say that the new generation of today are "monkeys" or "copycats", here in the Philippines. I read it from a news article.

Yeah. we translate songs and change the language or mix them with other songs. Some people truly have no originality.

Yup, one of our old musicians said on his blog a while back that people had been complaining about political bloc voting (countries voting for their neighbours) in the Eurovision Song Contest and blaming that for the UK doing badly (since Ireland is our only real neighbour), in his view completely ignoring the most obvious reason ('the elephant in the room' as he put it) for us doing badly, which was the songs/performers we were entering were utter shit.

The quality of most MAINSTREAM music is in freefall. I mean, why else are the Jonas Brothers and Hannah Montana so popular?

all you really need to remember is that the music industry NOW (more than ever) is about merchandising and selling a product... not the music... but a product

Elvis was unfortunately a great example of this and obviously so were the Beatles, but back then it was all about selling records...

when a label clicked on the fact that they could sell more junk with some pretty faces on it like lunch boxes and tshirts (just like the Beatles did) they gave birth to The Monkeys... a money making machine...

when you look at digital downloads compared to buying a whole album, it is getting harder and harder to move units.

    why?

back when people spent time writing and recording and working hard to promote themselves (not just start a myspace and spam their email list) music was for EVERYONE. Now days it is all about the "I Generation" as i call it. iPod... what I want, when I want it, where I want it... its embarrassing to see this generation eat up a 15 minutes hit and half the rest of the album full of crap and then just move on to the next artist...

people wonder why the industry is dying?

There is no heart left... Phil Collins used it all up ;) hahaha

If people spend TIME writing SONGS and not just HOOKS and GIMMICKS, then maybe we could start to fix the mess Gen Y has made? (yes Gen Y is to blame. dont act like they arent)

    times have changed...

It use to be a hard life trying to make money as a musician, now it's close to impossible.

In 50 years time, we will look back and say "that was the best generation in music" and the newer shall say what we have just said...

    "today's music is going downstream"

Like any industry-it's all about money, as as previously said-once a standing example is made-everyone copies...

One example-Korn-when they did something different (if I remember, 7 string guitars were what they used alot at first) everyone started to copy...

And to me-they changed too much-sure tey aren't a typical metal band anymore-they are more alternitve now-something alot of Old school Korn fans hate...

Also-as long as "talent' shows are on tv-and as disney takes over our minds with "high school musical" and "Hannah montanna" then the music industry, at least main stream-will die...

    A sad fate :(

It was a joke-but prehaps if we all did...

They would spend more time making thier music-instead of pumping it out quicker than a dog with diarrioa

only way things would change is if EVERYONE buys the good stuff and ignores the crap entirely.

Yep there has been a big difference with the music industry, since currently in this world its all about the business and makking money so i dont think they give a crap about what we hear unless we support them

in the older days it was all for the fans and entertainment... but now... its just all crap

i blame rap... in the 80's and early 90's it had understandable lyrics and it made sense... now it's just noise
