http://www.destructoid.com/the-future-death-160773.phtml this is a very interesting article. i could see several companies going dead, such as capcom.
In my humble opinion, i dont think the game industry is dying, BUT if it does than a lot of people (me included) will be bored at about 1:00 A.M. when everyone else is sleeping.
Someone loves stories that stick out hard don't they So...this explains why factor 5 is no longer around (NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!) but oh well... If not the global econamy, it's just the developers creating bombs and not making the money needed to keep going from the initial loss. And as before, nintendo is mentioned (and why this might be posted) as the one who survives, they DID revive the gaming industry back in the days of atari because of the crap being made back then. And despite all the crap being said, nintendo have a good firm foot in the gaming area, although the games are no longer "hardcore" it's the sheer fact that everything is changing, compared to other platforms personally I found the classic mario games the easiest to play. Games these days are full of check points and other "casual player" crap, because people don't have the time to play them hours at a time (the original mario games would hurt a few people these days because of the lack of a save system). And the wii controls are a good example, the games on wii that do infact uses this fully are designed for everyone to play, and to be enjoyable, they aren't hardcore classics (wii sports, light gun shooters, etc) but EVERYONE can play. And because of how as people call it, "shit" the graphics are, it might be less of an effort to create, and prehaps less cost (though I have no idea...it's just a guess so I'm expecting tis to be bashed ) Enough nintendo praise, only the strongest companies will survive, and this year none of the big guns like capcom would die, we might see other's fly about and merge, but no one shall die this year. Post Merge: [time]1264024052[/time] God that came out of no where, should get more sleep before posting in a topic XD
i dont think that its dying, but more like evolving its just going into a hard phase because of the global economy, once this mess gets fixed (probably never ) the game industry will be better than ever
The gaming industry isn't dying. The older companies will soon have to move over and die before new and more modern companies take over. It's just like the film and music industry: It has to make progress.
It ain't evolving buddy, more like "changing" because of the way gamers are. They are becoming easier because they don't have to make games insanly hard just to justifiy the price anymore, and heck they are catering for the casuals with check points and drop in drop out play. True, though a shame factor 5 died
Oh well let them kill gaming. I still got the classics and I'll always continue to play those old school games. I have a ps3, rarely do I ever play it, and I got rid of my 360 cause that was just for sell-outs lol! and my mom uses my Wii for that fitness stuff. I use my ps3 to play ps1 games and ps2 games, very soldem do I actually pop in a ps3 game. Take games from the psx console. Most of them, were rare save points maybe one in every level, this means you can't just rush in u actually had to take your time and plan stuff out before going in... Than we have Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2... That was the easiest campaign ever, it was all about visual appearence. I died only simply cause I knew I'd just spawn right behind me. Booom boom boom dead. And I baet the hardest diffculty like it was just normal for any other FPS. like what a huge let down new games are these days.. So let them die, please go ahead, drop dead stop releasing crappy games. no Thats a lie theres a few good ones that come out.. SQUARE ENIX! GO DIE YOU SELL OUTS AND TAKE FF7 WITH YOU
Personally, I think that article overhypes itself only to state the goddamn obvious: "Video games will live on, of course. Unfortunately, the industry as we know it now will cease to exist." Well, **** Sherlock, tell me something I don't know. The death of arcades? The rise of the handheld? The WRATH of online gaming? In other words: This. The industry has changed *a lot* over the frickin' years. Get used to it.
sony should have figured it out by now but they persist on being more technological then anyone. http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sciencetech/article-1210687/Is-2010-year-3D-Sony-brings-dimension-TVs-computers-consoles.html if you read around the net, people will tell you that 3d tv will be the next gimmick and you have people in the gaming industry who believe this. there are also people on this forum who are in support for it. http://www.smh.com.au/ffximage/2008/05/07/3d2_wideweb__470x379,0.jpg - it's a very funny picture. these things lead to stuff like this, http://www.wired.com/magazine/2009/12/fail_duke_nukem/ 3d realms didn't even realize why people liked duke nukem in the first place.
The entire concept of the wii motion controls can also be called a gimmick if you will. [me=hYpNoS]is back flipping his points in this discussion[/me] Isn't all these new concepts gimmicks until everyone does it? Just glad they eased up on lens flare XD
Hell, 3D movies are ridiculously old, they came out generally in the 50's. It's starting to pick up again.
if that was the case then everyone would consider the nes controller a gimmick when it was released. but the nes controller wasn't a gimmick.
is not dying dude. some people has say before that the videogame industry is more lucrative than the filming.
It wasn't anything really new back then. The playstation controllers I don't consider ether because they were based of the SNES design, which were based of the nes. I was talking about them in general, I knew about the virtual boy and those annoying ventures with 3-d glasses.
Oh and where is your evidence to support this, Ultra? Your shitty articles don't mention anything pertaining to Capcom at all. Capcom, contrary to what you think, is actually a very successful game company with very successful franchises, such as Megaman, Street Fighter, Resident Evil, Monster Hunter, and not to mention Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney series which have inspired creative Phoenix Wrong animations by fans. So, you think Capcom is going down? I say, you're full of crap as usual. Again, you just spout out a baseless assumption with nothing to back it up.
This is not the end. The bubble is merely bursting, as it has (or will) with every other industry in existence. This is the nature of capitalism. Contrary to the source editorial (not article) the metaphorical "life" of an industry is not measured solely by its financial success, but by the quality of its product, too. Come now, given how hard it usually is for you to find sources, I'd have expected you to at least read them. If you had done so, you would've might have realised that the failure of Duke Nukem Forever was not due to any technological gimmick, nor necessarily any misinterpretation of the inevitable market research into its predecessors' popularity. And, if this was not your intended meaning, then the mention of Duke Nukem was a good ol' non sequitur. Indeed, that last line of yours was a non sequitur in and of itself, with no factual or logical basis, at least as far as this thread is concerned. And yes, the Ace Attorney series is a prime example of Capcom successfully reaching for new demographics.
[3 days ago...] Spoiler companies that should die? try the idiots who pump out the DS' Imagine series. Now, if companies would stop burning funding thinking they're doing us all a favor by making more 'games', they could have more time to work on those bugs that show up upon launch, and EVERYONE takes advantage of, then has to spend 2 weeks rushing a fix, breaking something else; thus we're back to square one, and loads of people now have a shitload of different versions that they can't go online with. [1/26/10] [/old post waiting 3 days to get posted, and at the worst possible moment] I was going to write more, but I kind of blanked out, so yeah -_-; now, if MW2 had more time to be worked on, it might have had a wii release, instead of a rehash that will show up later.
