THe Four Legends of Emulation

I was bored last night with my ds dead and all and decided to think up a topic that would have a bit of controversy, so what would have the most controversy on an emulation site, why saying something is the best over all the rest of course so here goes:

The Best Emulator- ZSNES, noone will probably debate this choice though I see a few shaking their hands and murmuring ePSXe already

The Best Romsite- Romulation, this isn't a shameless plug, I really compared it to sites like Emureactor (DEAD) and my personal favorite PJRoms/PJRPGs (Also DEAD) this site's ease of use, community, and the inclusion of Gamecube and probably one of the largest selections of PSX roms out there beat all others out, at least until I start mine in 2022...

The Best translator- Ghideon Zhi of AGTP fame, if you don't believe me check the projects section at the website which I'm not sure I'm allowed to post a link to so Google it.

The Best Hacker- DarkAlex, because I know of no other famous one except Yasu.

There you have it, I will be anxiously awaiting the screams of outrage that I didn't include a fifth section or that KEGA FUSION is better than stupid ZSNES.

 

zsnes is awesome, been using it since around 1998, not arguing with you on that
romu is of course the best, or i wouldnt be here

i dont know any translators or hackers

 

ZSNES...I had a few problems with it so it was unable to run

RomUlation...well Seph and Loonylion are awesome, nothing to fight about

funny that, zsnes is the only emulator i have never had a problem with
worked on everything ive owned from my 350mhz pentium2 windows 95 right up to quad core and windows 7

 

DarkAlex is the programmer/hacker who made the first PSP Custom Firmware that enabled users to play ISOs and Homebrew while not having a PSP for each.

He made MANY CFWs for the PSP (the M33 series) and was one of the best hackers alive.

Don't know if he'll ever come back though...

 

Maybe the download was corrupt.

 

I think the biggest problem with ZSNES is that it uses a near like DOS format to select ROMs and it's entire layout is similar to how I picture an easier command DOS program. That and a lot of computers I use it on, it freezes. I prefer Snes9x for it's UI a lot better.

 

Maybe a little more detail was required, thanks ace for explaining Darkalex, Ghideon Zhi has translated over 20 games and has that many projects in development, mostly focuses on SNES and the Super Robot Wars saga but has done a translation for pretty much every old system or at least has a translation pending for that system, like I said check the site for the full game list.

 

does best emulators include flash carts if not you should add a section for that.

 

... FREE downloadable emulators including flashcards...?

 

Dark alex was a god...until he left.

Isn't it funny how they go "oh we'll be back" and they don't in the game hacking/emulation world?


...I think he's helping sony prevent cfw's, or at the least, bribed/threaten with legal action.



For those not in the know, dark alex was the one who got the whole psp hacking scene going, with his awesome m33 custom firmware series to his own iso compression method, DAX.

 

I think visualboyadvance is the best emulator, zSnes has crashed the odd time on me, whereas VBA has never crashed on me ever.

 

Sorry to tell you ZSNES Fans out there, but that emulator is soooooooo obsolete

snes9x version 1.52 now runs more games than ZSNES ever could, plus it can now run games that uses the SPC Chip enhancer, something ZSNES doesn't even support natively

The only down side though, is currently five or so games have been reported (me included in the people who commented on snes9x's feedback forum) to have issues with the emulator. These games were originally supported on the previous 1.51 release, but at least now snes9x runs ROMs that even ZSNES had issues running, best example "Der Langrisser".

Also, I don't like Gideon Zhi as he's a bit rude, ever tried going in AGTP's forums? Dynamic Designs' staff is more friendlier

Also, Gideon Zhi recently released patches that have minor unfixable bugs (according to him), but guys like Dynamic Design, Nightcrawler's Transcorp, Byuu & even DQTranslations often make sure they have fully polished patches before they release 'em to the public

The best ROM Hackers - Neil Corlett he was part of the team who translated Seiken Densetsu 3, Byuu he made BSNES, another excellent SNES Emulator, FuSoYa he created LunarIPS & Lunar Magic.

 

I just downloaded snes9x 1.52 fix4 and when i start it up it says something about no sound caused by not having the latest directx.
i have directx 11.
i will be sticking to zsnes, like i said no problems ever and plays every game perfect

 

I'm gonna download a test ROM.

Whoops, I forgot FuSoYa but I'm too lazy to change my first post. I still use lunar IPS all the time but have since moved past m33 to Gen D3.
