The City of Angels

    Hi all,

    This is yet another thread in my on-going vacation series. This time we made it to LA, we're staying in Hollywood really close to the Hollywood Highlands, which is the big mall right next to the theatre where the Oscars are held. So far my initial impression of LA is huge disappointment. The Hollywood Highlands itself is decent enough, it's a big short on stores when you consider it's size, and the restaurants there are mediocre. But otherwise it seems like a nice place, I've already seen a few things I might want to buy.

    We started out going to The Grill on Hollywood, had a really good menu with a nice diversity, we were seated outside by a waiter and left 15 minutes later because we still hadn't even been given a menu, if they can't even keep track of their customers then I don't want to give them my money. So we took a stroll down Hollywood Blv. also known as The Walk of Fame. This is where most of my disappointment comes from, once you got 100 metres away from the Hollywood Highlands you it was mostly worn down places, fast-food places and tattoo places, we walked for a good while and I smelled urine several times, for a so called Walk of Fame is certainly was a really shitty and boring place.

    We ended up just taking a taxi back to the Hollywood Highlands and eating at this Italian place opposite The Grill on Hollywood, the food was good except for serving rather small portions and a few details.

    So that marks the end of my first day in Hollywood, Los Angeles; and so far I'm not impressed at all, help me save this stay in Hollywood by giving me the inside scoop on where to go for some good food and some great night-out fun.

    Keep in mind that I'm staying really close to the Hollywood Highlands and that I have to take a taxi to get to specific places, so specifying something down town - while appreciated - probably won't be of much help. (Unless it sounds really interesting)

    I always Pictured Hollywood was great....
    now someone can actually say!
    so how is it? Are FOOD in there GREAT?
    sadly i cant go...just a kid....
    anyways...FOOD?

    and sorry to ask, is the Hollywood Highlands is a Hotel or something?

    maybe he should try all the food he can eat.
    food always makes a vacation better..
    especially food from out your country.

    Hollywood Highlands is a mall sort of place, a building with various shops, stores, dining places and a nightclub.
