I am aware that RTS and TBS games are not the same. I thought the OP would call RTS games "turn based action" due to RTS games being somewhat similar.
Both type require strategies. And they usually involve units and resource managing. Either way, I really want the OP to answer what exactly a "turn based action" game is. I thought Pokemon would qualify, given the wording, but I guess not.
The only game I can think of that is both turn-based and action is Valkyria Chronicles. The other games he may be referring to are the Tales games that have you battle in turns, but also make you move around and crap. What specific genres are you looking for? I also would like to know for what systems. There's no point in recommending a bunch of games if you don't have the system for it.
i think he is saying he hates classic RPG games. which are turn based. RTS games are nothing similar to turn based games. since RTS mean real time strategy games ( even the name has nothing that indicates that theose are turn based ) a good recent action game i can think of right now is thor: god of thunder, good 2d platform game, kinda repetitive but pretty good, even for being a movie game
