Strange Error

I have a very strange error that comes up when I put in my thumbdrive into the computer.

Nothing happens if the computer is on when I put it in, but if it's in when the computer is being turned on, the computer comes up with:

    Error: No Operating System Found

That just cannot be good. Turning it off and removing the thumbdrive and turning it on fixes this problem, but I'm wondering why it does this?

[If I can't get it on this forum, I'll try on some tech forums]

    Thanks In Advance.

I have a feeling it's something simpler than CloudBoii12's answer. Does it say that only when you turn it on with the thumbdrive in or does it always say that now?

If it's only when it's plugged in, it seems that the PC is just looking for windows on the drive. I'm not sure why it's doing this, maybe it's a setting that needs changing on your PC, but it should be ok as long as it's not plugged in when you turn on. I don't think your PC is broken though. However, if it always says that now, then CloudBoii12 is probably right.

When you say "Nothing happens if the computer is on when I put it in" do you mean nothing bad or nothing at all (PC doesn't recognise it)? If nothing happens at all, it's possible the drive is corrupt. But if not then you're ok. Sorry I can't be of more help.

Short answer: Insert USB stick, and Disable booting from that USB in your BIOS.

Long answer: at a certain point BIOS writers decided to support booting from USB (and recognize the HDD connected to it). The BIOS checks for any disk it can boot from, somehow preferring USB over your normal IDE/SATA HDD. Insert the USB stick, go to your BIOS. You should find the USB stick in the list of devices to boot from. Disable it for boot (I had to use shift+1) and you PC should boot normally.

there's a boot order section that allows you to set the priority of disks to boot from. So long as the internal hard disk is at a higher priority than the thumbdrive, it will work as normal.

    @Cloudboii - Thanks. I remember why I don't like tech sites. A little complicated.

@Fredboxx - Yeah, it's a little strange, but I suppose it COULD count (to the computer) as an external hard drive.

@nomercy & Loonylion - I'll try this out when I have the time. I'll tell you (in this post or another) if it worked or not. Since you both kind of recommended the same thing, I think it'll work :)

I usually keep USB before HDD on my laptop, cause I often boot BackTrack 4 on my USB drive. Just remember that when you turn on your computer, make sure that no flash drive or floppy disk is inside the system. The computer will attempt to find an OS on the flash drive and floppy, and it may display an error message when it doesn't find one.

Some BIOSes don't adhere to that! Disable it for booting.

If I have a thumbdrive or sd card plugged into mine whenever i start my computer, it sys my disk may be damaged and must restart... so i just take it out and it works fine... it's probably the same basic problem

Nah, i worked it out. Thanks guys, it was because the priorities were set wrong in the BIOS. Thanks :)

ok, so this is a thread about a strange error right? here is mine, hope someone can help...

A problem has been detected and windows has been shut down to protect damage to your computer.

and there are some sentences about it. like check if you have adequate disk space, check for updates of drivers, changing video adpater, biosupdates and disable bios memory options such as caching or shadowing...

and there is a technical information.. with the *** STOP: numbers and letters combined..

every time i open my laptop starting about a week ago, that shit always happens then it automatically restarts and dont even let me reach to type my password to log to the desktop. i disabled the auto restart but always see that blue thing with the sentences, but sometimes shows different reasons, the above post seems more frequent than the others. sometimes it says about irql more or less....or something like that.

but when i press the off button then turn it back on, it becomes normal again... i think its just happens when i open the laptop for the first time every morning...

    here are my questions:
    1.) What are bios?
2.) why does that happen? do i need to configure something?
    3.)what are caching or shadowing?
4.) How can i know if i have adequate disk space?
5.) how can i know if i need to disable, remove, change a driver or know what driver is acting up?
6.) can you change video adapter in a laptop?

Thanks major big time for any help!!!

what does the stop error say?

well, sometimes it says about some things but forgot to write it down, it usually say it when i have the auto restart on, which disappears for like 2-3 seconds...

well, here is what i have wrote this morning which is gibberish...

    ***STOP: 0x0000007E C0xC0000005, 0x805C4426, 0xF7A768E0, 0xF7A765DC

hmmm, if it happens again, i'll try to supplement it more

this is a hardware error, is there a filename mentioned at the bottom of the blue screen (or under the STOP line)? Have you changed your hardware or updated any drivers recently?

It might be failing RAM. It's happened to me twice. I start getting blue screens randomly. Run Memtest and tell us if there are any errors.

hm.. i can recall the irql more or less thing... but like i said, when i turn my laptop, its ok..blah, blah, then when it goes to the log in screen to type the password, it automatically restarts then the same sequence happens over and over... when i press F5 when i turn it own to stop the auto restart, it happened again exept the the whole restart bit and just stop in the blue screen with those sentences i typed earlier is what i saw this morning.

but the strange thing is, when i turned it off, then turn on again, its ok and can use the laptop.
it always happens for last few days...

I'll supplement my report when it happen again tommorow morning.... and even put a picture if possible.

i tried running Memtest that you suggested but it said: Windows cannot find memtest file...or something like that

memtest86+ is a bootable CD, you burn it and boot from the CD, then leave it running overnight.

IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL is usually caused by bad ram or faulty drivers.

there's no way I can read that image, can you upload a bigger one? I only need the first image, but it needs to be big enough for me to read the text.
