http://www.startrekonline.com/splash?redir=frontpage So I've been playing it for a few days now. It seems pretty fun. Since it's in Beta, there is emergency maintenance and a bit of server congestion. A few bugs, but it's fun. Space battles are fun, ground fighting is fun enough. Navigation can be slow. There are a lot of skills and abilities, and not a lot of explanation of what everything is. But you eventually work things out.
I've been playing for a few hours, the only thing I like about it is the Space Battles. Fighting on Land gets old quick. I don't see this MMO taking off once its released.
I honestly don't think it's ready for a February release... The system is still very buggy, it is very difficult to get team members into an instance with you, if they try to join your mission, they start a copy of the mission themselves (even if you all join at the same time). While fun, I won't be paying to play this game once it's released.
i've wanted to know about this game. i love the idea and what i'm most interested in is the ship creator (so if you could give your opinion on it that'd be great) but the thing that bugs me is the price, near £50 and then a monthly subscription no thanks.
There is a Ship Creator, and although it looks fun, you cant really use it unless you have quite a bit of credits(in game money). And I'm about level 4 now and I still have NO money at all towards paying for any Ship Creation.
I'm level 6, and I've got about 1000 credits and a few extra ship components worth about 3500 credits total. You can go grind on some Klingon ships and pick up components. The birds of prey have a disruptor cannon worth about 300 credits. The Warships and Cruisers can drop the Tactical, Engineering, and Science Modules, which can sell for 300-500 credits. An engine sells for about 2500. Got two engines, a cannon, and a few modules while doing a couple missions that required fighting them to clean out the Sector Space. Last mission I did, I picked up probably 7-8 ground weapons, most of them sucked, but they were worth 50-100 credits each. I ended up blowing most of my money on a MK III Kit, which I can't even use yet cause my level isn't high enough (I didn't realize it required Lt. Commander rank, and I was only Lieutenant grade 5 at the time). I found out you can set one fore and one aft weapon to auto-fire, which makes it easier. I set my phasers and disruptor beams to auto fire. The Engineering Officer's emergency shield energy ability is very nice. Putting points into Starship Operation so you can learn Evasive Maneuvers is a must. Not only do the skill points increase your turning ability, but every 60 seconds you can turn on Evasive Maneuvers and can easily turn you ship around. Keeping your strongest shields to the opponent is a must, and being able to quickly point your strongest weapons (usually torpedoes) at the enemy once your phasers and disruptors have broken the shields is very important.
