While looking around online, I found this little bit of news on Square Enix.
Apparently, the CEO, Yoichi Wada, says that in 10 years, there will no longer be hardware. Everything will be server based, and we won't need hardware to download or play games.

So he's saying that we'll be playing games, without a console, controller, or even VR room (that would be hardware), no brain implants (also hardware), and the data won't even be on hardware.

    Thoughts?

I doubt it to be honest.
Hardware won't really die that easily.
    And isn't a server a hardware...?

    I don't think there's a trojan, my anti-virus didn't say anything when I went there.

    Exactly.

My Avast did, Avast rarely produces false positives but I guess it is possible.

Avast? I have avast too, but mine didn't react.
My bad if there is, though. I'll keep an eye on my computer and see if it does anything.

Ah, well damn, sorry then. Wouldn't have linked it if I had known.

Still an interesting piece of news, though, eh?

its a load of rubbish, software can't run on thin air. Even if the games are run on a remote server a la onlive, you'd still need a client device to communicate with the server and translate the data into sound/video and send controller inputs to the server.

Yup. Yet Enix's CEO says that within 10 years, we'll be able to do this.

I had lost hope for Enix after FFXII, and was holding out to extricate them from my game case until after Kingdom Hearts 3, but this.....this is just beyond idiotic.
If this is the future of games, I'm gonna play games with my muscles and bones before I ever touch a console.
