I want to advice a friend of mine to update his DirectX 9 drivers using the updater found here: http://www.microsoft.com/download/en/details.aspx?id=35 So he can use the updated SVN releases of snes9x (version 1.53) & VBA-M (SVN956) as these require the updates to DirectX 9. However, I'm not sure if I should advice the updates as his copy of XP is not legit.... & walks in the dodgy bit. I won't ask for anything disallowed just this... "If he does download the updater & tries to update DirectX 9, will Microsoft detect his copy & essential break his OS install?". I also used to use an illegitimate copy of my OS (a majority of my countrymen do sadly ) & I know for a fact if automatic updates are turned on or if you do a manual search for updates Microsoft will detect your copy of the OS & if your copy is pirated it will ruin your OS for you.
the directx 9 redistributable should work regardless. The catch is if you put it on a computer with a non-dx9 graphics card, you will not see any benefit from installing it.
Thanks for the heads up loony This topic really had me on edge as it really is bordering on treacherous territory. And yes the guy's graphics card is directx 9 abled.
Usually, downloading anything directly from Microsoft will nag you with their WGA, or Windows Genuine Advantage EXE program, or at least make you download it and then enter in a security code in order to download what you want. If he runs into this, just have a friend of his with a genuine copy download the install file and that takes care of that little snag. Or just pirate the damn install file...lol
generally only important windows updates to that. directx doesnt. The one linked does require a live internet connection to install, its actually a downloader.
Woah! I didn't expect you folk to elaborate on my query further Anyway, he got to update his version of DirectX 9 without a hitch last night & he finally had the chance to try out SNES games for the first time The guy is actually a total computer beginner & for the most part only knew of Facebook games & MMORPGs before I got to introduce him to the world of emulation gaming. It's a bit of a shame ain't it? Because of how expensive genuine software is in some countries, the people living in them have adopted & accepted piracy as a means to get an end. Frugality takes over being righteous. And no, I am not being a hypocrite as I too admit to having pirated games in this rig. I just decided to purchase a legit copy of the OS because of the updates you get with it. And yes, I know Windows updates are not all that reliable but at least it's a step up. Again thanks to your posts guys & gals
