Source: http://www.betanews.com/article/Sonys_Stringer_Admits_PS3_Price_Too_High/1181923935 A 2 billion loss in a fiscal year is horrible, hopefully they'll come around and reduce the price, if it was half of what it is now I MIGHT consider buying it once it has a larger selection of games.
they need actual games first, only having 7 games that i would personally buy that have come out/are coming out eventually dosent make me want to buy a whole system. Escpilly when 2 are coming out for 360
Due the game selection along with the price and stuff, I've been considering going for a XBOX 360 instead... but then there's the failure rate, so I'm undecided for now.
The funny thing is that even after admitting that the price tag is too high they made it even higher in Europe. In Denmark it costs 5000 DKK which is roughly $925. That's just way too much.
I think it might have included a game, but that doesn't change the fact that it's an outrageous price, even if there were two games included it would still be a $800 console.
lmao. 1000 american dollars for a gaming console without games. they are definitely asking for trouble. for a thousand i can buy a cheap lcd monitor along with a wii and games and play something.
reduce the price? the price for the ps3 right now is a steal 599usd for the 80gig which is coming and right now until supplies last the 60gig is 499. the amount of power in a ps3 you can easily sell that off as a computer *including blueray player* for easily over 1500. 599 may seem pricey but overall if you think about what that product has to offer its a great offer. Just look at the xbox that things like 300-400 and all it can muster together is SHIT compared to the ps3. Now personally I was skeptic of the price on the ps3 at first, i mean really 600 bucks for a console but after throughly looking at the specs and listening to podcasts of e3 i can say for sure that the ps3 hands down will be as awesome as its predecessors.
No way it will. I will admit that it's a very powerful system, it can make some very pretty graphics indeed! The blue-ray player isn't worth squat, it's a format I doubt will take off, and even if it does then the Xbox360 has HDDVD so that makes them equal. Only the 360 is way cheaper, it's also quite powerful even when compared to the PS3 and it's not $400 dollars more like $250. The only thing that makes the PS3 good now is that they stole the motion sensor concept from Nintendo, that's something they're real good at. I'll stick with my Wii and my PC, then in two years time when your PS3 is oh so slow compared to modern PC's I can just stick in a new graphics card and it's all done with. (Though I won't cause personally the graphics of the current systems are fine for me)
GET OUT OF MY HEAD. Honestly, I'm surprised that Sony would admit that the pricing was a mistake, and decreasing the price of the 60GB by $100 was a step in the right direction (what about the 20GB, though? Or was that discontinued at some point when I wasn't paying attention?), but then they announce that they're moving on to an 80 GB system for $599 and discontinuing the 60 GB. Now, I don't know about you, but I can see the writing on the wall: "Okay, we'll give you a discounted price. It'll only last until stores stop selling them in lieu of our new version, though! So hurry up, because you only have a little bit of time!" It's basically, for all intents and purposes, a clearance. They should have just dropped the price to $399 in this case, since they're obviously moving on. You could also consider it a lame bait-and-switch attempt, but I prefer the clearance view. Yeah...I'll be sticking with my Nintendo Wii for now. Maybe...maybe if the PS3 drops to half its price like Seph said and some of its games turn out to be really good (I'm looking at you, KH3), I'll get it then. I doubt it, though, as I have a general dislike of Sony at the moment for other reasons...
blu-ray this and blu-ray that, it's not even a standard and people are saying that it's a bargain. the cheapest blu-ray player in the market is 490 made by sony. if you consider that and reduce the price with the ps3, then it would be like spending 10 dollars for the ps3. however, if the blu-ray player fails, then you can also look at it as spending 490 dollars for a piece of garbage that can only read a garbage disc system. the big question is, if blu-ray fails and sony in the future will try to bring in a new format, would other major companies such as panasonic still join in to gain popularity of the format?? btw, it is still an amazing price of the ps3 on the european market. my god, that is really expensive.
