so sony's dominance was because nintendo and sega were screwing up and it allowed them to gain market. now we know where sony ps3 will end up.

I don't think any company is dominant.

Sony dominated because of final fantasy 7, 8 and 9, resident evil, grandia, gran turismo, metal gear solid and other great games.

Sony was successfull because it targeted teenage gamers.
Nintendo brought out more 'cartoonish' games and console style.

Isn't that the case with any competition?

I still can't believe that so many years into it's life, the ps3 is still $349 new.

    That's still a load and a half...I can buy a Wii for 1/2 to 1/3 of that price. :p

Got my PS3 for $300 (120GB Slim). Don't regret it one bit.

I got mah Wii for free :p

I got it from grandma. It had to be repaired once, system menu failed (unmodded). It was done when modding my system :p

My PS1 is crap. It smells weird (yeah it came out of the closet, but even after letting it run for an hour it smells just like my DSTWO (really computer-fan like)), doesn't read a shit and crashes me too much (have to open it, do some things, close it, turn it on for an hour...also BIOS fails). My Wii to that, has almost never crashed (only when an error occured, but that isn't much, reset and done).

I like Nintendo better then Sony. Nintendo is more mario-style (you know what I mean), and makes more handhelds lately. Sony makes more home-consoles lately (correct? I only follow Nintendo's history), and is more like teenager games, shooting, fighting, like that.

But it's your opinion. This is my opinion about it.

It just sounds like your PS1 is loaded down with issues. Mine only finally bit the dust, as the spindle that held the disc fell to pieces (the poor system had been abused by stupid people :( ).

Nintendo has always hand a hold on the hand held market, with Sony being the only competitor anymore with the PSP. Even then though, the PSP has never come close to outselling the DS, and most people only get the PSP for the older models due to how easily hacked they are.

Nintendo has also always been one for platforming style games (such as Mario). They try to maintain the "all age groups" image, and although it does boost sales, it has also created the image that Nintendo is only for those very young, or very old. I love Nintendo systems and can see through that, but it's getting harder to harder to shake that opinion with the copious amounts of shovelware for children that continuously gets released for nothing but Nintendo systems.

As you stated, Sony goes towards the more teenager to young adult demographic. Each has their respective fans for their respective reasons though. In the end, it all boils down to personal opinion.

Yeah if my PS1 stayed in the closed without been noticed for about one year I guess the BIOS could have some issues...
I hear alot of KRRGZH when it's booting up.
    Yeah it's a poor system :(
Nintendo is going a bit down with the DS' games, though. I can't say that all the new games are crap, but they aren't like before, the good ol' days of New Super Mario Bros. being released...good days.

I know, each company has it's own fans.

I refused an offer for the PS2 (just for one day it was €80,-) because I didn't like the games for it. Somebody else could happily picked it, because he/she liked the games for the system.

People have an opinion and somebody else cannot change that.

i think sony makes great consoles, specially since i still have my psx, and it has been worn off so much, and still works perfectly. same with my psp, bought it when it came out, and never had an issue with it, not even the battery dying quickly after so long! and i dont think sony had luck before, its just that they are losing many exclusive games they had that made playstation so amazing. games like metal gear solid, crash bandicoot and others, are being multiplatform, making other platforms more demanding due to their exclusive games

You turned down the PS2? Seriously, I only own a couple games for mine, but I can say it's backlog of games is one of the best, nearly as good as the SNES. It has a great variety and the AAA titles are generally of good quality. And plus, it can play PSX games.

Not really, I think Sony's variety in games is better than Nintendo's, especially since Nintendo's first party games as far as variety goes, is platformer, adventure and party games (which isn't really a bad thing, considering there's Mario Galaxy and Kirby and Zelda). Also the PSP was the biggest threat to Nintendo's dominance in the hand held department ever, even though it didn't beat the DS in any shape, way or form besides power, it's the biggest success in the handheld market besides Nintendo.

Had Nintendo not argued with Sony when the SNES CD was under development, Sony would've not even made the PSX to begin with.

And in a funny twist of fate, Sony sued Nintendo a few years back because the Classic Wii controller's look & layout oddly resembled a Playstation controller.

But then again, the PSX controller looks exactly like a SNES controller except for the L2 and R2 buttons. :p

Dreamcast controller = XBOX controller with a few more buttons...hmmmm..

    Dreamcast came first.

    Oh, I know.
That's what I meant, but I guess it looked different. :p

I guess what I meant was XBOX controller = Dreamcast controller. As soon as I got my Dreamcast, I noticed how M$ ripped off the almost exact design from Sega...
