Okay, there's something wrong with my laptop, again :-\
I inserted The Sims 1 into my DVD/CD drive, click on my computer and it comes up with [IMG]
Isn't the file size meant to be a bit bigger? (Also this is a legit copy & it hasn't been changed in any way) Then when I click on DVD RW Drive (E:) it come's up with
    [IMG]
    How do I fix this?

not necessarily. The box should say which it is.

I can't find anything on the box which mention's DVD or CD.
But from Acekilla's description, it sounds like a CD.
Anyway I gotta go to bed :(
I'll post more when I get home from school tomorrow.

Well... since you have an actual copy of the game, you could legally download it from somewhere thus making it a backup copy

may i try to help? can you right click on the cd, rather than clicking it using left click.
thenit should say some option. click the open option. it should not install it, but let you see the contents. also, when you insert the cd and the comp reads it, it will say what cd you inserted.

in you picture, i think the cd is a dvd-rw and it has at least 473-477MB of free space. i dont know if i'm right with that but it will not hurt if you try.

Did what you suggested damanali, didn't work :( It comes up with the formatting thing again.
    Will enabling auto-play help?

what OS are you running? vista? i heard that if vista is the OS, auto-installation is off by default. Thats why i dont use vista.

well, can you see the properties when you click the left button? is should show how much is the used and free space on the cd

Yeah I'm using Vista Home Premium, I don't really have a choice.
It says, Used space: 473 MB
    Free space: 0 bytes
    Capacity: 473

That means, it might be a cd, cause a dvd can hold more than 1GB and it will stupid to put 500MB less of program in a dvd which you said is a legit copy, right? even pirates use cd for that small program.

ok, cause formatting your cd will erase the content, so dont. well, since using the left click and open it doesnt work, you should try enabling the auto instal.

if it doesnt work, then it might be because of the OS vista, which i also have problem with thats why i use xp.

I enabled the auto-run but when I re-inserted the disk auto-run didn't run and clicking on it still doesn't work :(

well, it reads the cd, right? well, there is no problem there... does something pops up when you insert the cd? cause when i use a vista comp, everytime i plug it with something like cd, external drive or wifi adapter, there is always a pop up window that says: something was plug to the computer, allow access? or something like that.

good thing it still reads the cd but wont run, my optical drive only reads cd, not dvd...

Nope, nothing pops up. I'm starting to hate my laptop more everyday.

nah, dont hate your laptop. its not the laptops fault, its the OS, also, Vista is known for the security thight thingies... If it doesnt want to install, just think of it that it has a virus and vista just save you. well, its stupid but at least it saves you from destroying your laptop.

also, do you have other computer? maybe you should try checking the contents on that one maybe the cd has faults, not your laptop/optical drives.

Cause here is my solution on that problem. ( Its stupid, so try it if you want )
1.) Get the content of the cd using other computer and save the contents on a flashdisk.
2.) Insert the flashdisk on the laptop, open the content and click on the Setup button.
3.) It should install and viola, play it.

Also, its stupid, so just try it if you want but not recommended.
