Truth be told, I've never even played the Sega Genesis before and my understanding is that it's had some real gems as well. I'm particularly looking for some RPGs as stated in the title.

The only ones I know about at this point are the Phantasy Star games and nothing else, so any other recommendations would be beautiful.

    Landstalker.

Zelda with more RPG elements and a different POV.

The only Megadrive RPG that I've ever played was Vermilion Sword. I played it as part of a Megadrive collection on the PSP; it was O.K, but very repetitive and pretty much void of anything memorable. If I didn't have the ability to save anywhere (I think that this is only naturally possible in the PSP version) then I would have found it practically impossible to complete : /
It had lots of annoying issues (like not being able to find out the stats of a piece of equipment until after you'd bought it, a bland story, shallow real-time battles, ridiculously difficult 2d side-scrolling boss battles which would lose you hours of progress dicking around in the bosses dungeon if you were killed, and labyrinthine dungeons that you needed candles to see the layout of - the candles would burn out after a certain amount of time and leave you to memorise the layout by walking randomly around until you bumped into something). I never found the Vermilion Sword either : (
I wouldn't recommend VS, but maybe you'd like some of the RPGs that those links lead to.

Already have the Gamecube version of Skies of Arcadia. Decent game though I haven't really sat in front of it for some extended play time yet.

@Markswan: I'll check the links promptly. Thank you.

I recommend shining force 2, its the only genesis rpg that i could get into, the rest are quite poor if your used to modern games.

The other day I went out and I saw a SEGA Mega Drive on sale , it's only around RM 90 I think, but I didn't buy it because I thought they wont be selling games for it anymore.

The Shining Force games on the Genesis.
It's more like a Turn-Based Strategy RPG though.

Strategy RPGs are even better. Definitely making a note to check those now.
I wasn't even aware the two were different truth be told. I've played the SNES one and that one was rather weird at times. I'll likely look into the Genesis one now since I know that I'm not going to get the exact same thing.

its a totally different game, only the name is the same.
You should like shining force 2 then if you like strategy RPG's, the first ones quite poor because of its age but the second one is really good

I guess it's more of a RTS than a RPG, but I really liked Master of Monsters for the Genesis. It has some role playing elements (your creatures level up).

I don't play so much, but Beyond Oasis is a cool RPG for Mega Drive/Genesis... But my opinion is so invalid, I NEVER finished a RPG. :p
