Hmm, I'm never seen this before. Nor have I ever had a problem with cheats.

Does this happen only on particular games or all of them?

Also, you may be doing something wrong, I don't EVERY remember enabling cheats by pressing the "L" button.

Gimme a few minutes so I can find my DSi and refresh my memory on how I use/activate cheats.

it's to set the default to "on", instead of using the options on each rom, and yes, it happens on all of them.

Also: where can I manually download the Cheat database?

He means that in the Ak2i menu there is an option to set "cheat code usage" as ENABLED for every game so that it is (hopefully, I haven't tried) not necessary to turn on for each and every game. I actually have this option disabled, which leads to no problems.

Also if you haven't, you should get the AKAIO firmware, I think 1.5 is the newest. Here's the link http://gbatemp.net/index.php?showtopic=181006

I used the built-in auto update and I was told I have the latest update.

Ok. Well, I don't see anything that you could be doing wrong. Anyway, this is how I use/enable cheats:

-Go to "System Options" and go to the page entitled "Default Patch Options'' then enable cheat code usage.
-Select the .NDS file you want to use cheats on
-Tap the "Start" icon
-Select "Cheats" from the "Start" menu
-Enable the cheats you want
-Press the "Select" button to save you cheats
-Run the .NDS file

This has always worked for me, don't know what you might be doing wrong.

Thats exactly what I've done, but I just keep getting a white screen.

Hmm, what version of AKAIO do you have? 1.5.1? Becuase I run 1.5 and cheats work fine with me.
