Hi I am new to all this R4 stuff so try to sort it out for my 8yr old daugher this is what I have done to date:

    1) Downloaded WinRar
    2) I have setup a folder on my hard drive called DS Games
    3) I simply go into Romulation find the game I want and download it to my desktop and using WinRar I extract and put it into my DS Games Folder.
    4) I then drag and drop it from the DS Games Folder to the R4

So yes it all works but I am told that I should also have some software on my PC which will allow me to open the games on PC see if they are working ok before I drop them on the R$ can anybody guide me to the right place to get this software so games can be run on PC.

    Thanks

    The General

You'll want the program called no$gba which you can download here: http://nocash.emubase.de/gba.htm

A word of warning though, emulation of DS games on the PC is very unstable and more often than not doesn't work properly, it's not a reliable method to tell if a game will work on your R4 or not.

The best thing to do is to go to this page: http://www.linfoxdomain.com/nintendo/ds/
Click on text that says R4 DS and then download the newest firmware version, which, currently, is: R4_v1.18_English.zip

Extract that to the root of your R4 and it should update to the latest firmware.

This should ensure that you will be able to run most games. Sadly, the R4 doesn't support every DS game so there are some games which you might not be able to play, I've heard of mixed reports with the new Carnival Games, for example.

But should you find some games that don't work then come back and we'll look at it, there are a few more advanced this that can still be done, but they generally aren't worth the bother so long as you update the firmware.

You don't really need a emulator because they both have different games that will work and ones that won't. Castlevania: Portrait of ruin might run on the computer (probably VERY slow), but it will not work on the R4. you can go to this site for updates that work and those that don't.

But like Seph said, also get the latest firmware.
