soft-modding wii

I read in a forum that someone suggested soft-modding your wii instead of getting a mod chip and it's free, does anyone know how this is done and how do i get the wii games. would love to be able to stop buying wii games all the time. the r4i card is the best thing around, is there something for my wii also?
