    Re: Site Hosts

A host is a company that provides resources, in our case servers, power and bandwidth. We do the rest.

How would we not use a host? Run the site from my basement? Using a host *is* the professional way to do it. Gives us a building built and dedicated to housing servers and an internet connection designed to be used constantly and by people from all over.

    Re: Site Hosts

    Errr... That did I know...
Loonylion said once that the site was running on 8 servers... Or did he mean on 8 servers by a host?
I thought running one from your own home was the professional way, but whatever.

    I'm updating the list.

    Re: Site Hosts

8 servers provided by bananabit (actually the EU one is provided by a different company).

Running from your own house is not professional. You need airconditioning, security, 100% reliable power and extremely fast internet connections, none of which can be adequately provided in a residential premises.

OK. That's why our old server (for my dad's company) is so crappy..

Whatever. Update still not complete, but the post is saved too.

    seph edited that in.

As an aside, if you want a site to look professional, you dont use a free host, free hosted forum or a free domain name.
