I've been wanting a PSP since it came out, but I just now got enough money to afford a used PSP 1000, a few games, and a mem stick. I've got a moderately-sized list of games I want for the handheld, too. But my mom keeps saying I shouldn't buy any more gadgets. Should I go for it?
psp is a good console, and if you get a psp 1000 you can hack it so you dont have to buy games. you will need a big memory for it though. i recommend using this http://www.amazon.com/PhotoFast-CR-5400-MicroSD-Adapter-Dual/dp/B001I0T92Q/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1293063121&sr=8-1 with any 2 micro sd cards (they have to be same size and brand to work fine).
Well, as I'll be needing my Gamestop gift cards(I got 1 visa gift card for $100, 1 $25 gamestop card, and 1 $50 gamestop card) to afford everything AFTER the PSP, and I didn't see that at Gamestop... I can't get that. In fact, I was only thinking of getting a 1gb for starters and just not pirate for a while (Plus it took me a week to find a Patapon ISO, only to find out no PSP emulator can play it). I want to AT LEAST know how to put a game in the thing if a ban on piracy is enacted.
well some good games are -kingdom hearts birth by sleep (action RPG) -Crimson Gem Saga (RPG) -Metal Gear Solid Peace Walker (3rd Person Shooter) -Patapon (rhythm Game) -LocoRoco (platform game) -Persona 3 Portable (RPG) -Final Fantasy 7 Crisis Core (Action RPG) -God of War Chains of Olympus and Ghost of Sparta (action/hack and slash game) -Katamari i forgot the actual name
The thing is, the PSP is less of a gaming console and more of a jack-of-all-trades handheld that happens to play games. It's a media player, it's an e-book reader, you can surf the web on it, you could watch movies, you could script codes and shit, you could run emulators on it, you could have a drum machine on it, and much much more. If you're looking for a "gaming" console, I suggest going for a DS, since that is the superior gaming handheld. But if you're looking for more than just games, then the PSP is the one for you.
The UMDs are really costly, at least where I live. like 50USD, which translates to 150 our money, per game. 1GB isn't enough though, even if you don't plan to pirate games. Movies are pretty big, unless you only plan to listen to music with it. Even then 1gb isn't much for music. And if you eventually plan to pirate, 1GB isn't even enough to keep one game, if you're looking at big ones. Most go to 1.5+ GB. Might as well get at least 4GB. Can store pretty much all the simple necessities.
The psp it's self is a powerful console, and once hacked, emulation on that is much better...it can do ps1 games on the go, as well as everything that the ds can emulate...AND BETTER! D: Mine was used soly for piracy.. They discounted the UMD's here, no one bought them, even australians know the pirate
No, there is no way to hook up the ds to a tv sold, infact intelligent systems (makers of advance wars games) made a device that streams both screens to tv screens (which I seen at nintendo comps I once competed in). But it's not sold commercially because it defeats the point of a hand held.
The DS can't emulate Gameboy Advanced Games easily, the PSP can. < Reply to Hypnos' post. A 1gb isn't enough. A big game can go beyond 1gb. Best to get two 8gb games if you want downloaded ISOs. Post Merge: [time]1293125212[/time] And yes, get a PSP1000 or 2000. A fair warning when buying a 2000 however, newer releases of PSP2000s are not fully hackable. They're like PSP3000s where it can only be semi-hacked.
i say buy it, im super excited to get back to the psp scene- you've wanted it since it came out- and you are posting about it- i think you want it enough to go ahead and get it!
i bought one recently and hav a pandora,2gb MMS,CFW 5.50 GEN AND THEN UPGRADED TO prometheus 3 v4 from isotoll 1.95s CFW Change and hav been very happy with it ps1s ukla world on the go is very nice, gba emu,nin 64 emu,psp games hell even a ds game emulator i say go ahead its wat i did bought a psp for 100 buks off my dad and bin happy finding out about all the possibilites btw 1gb may be enough i have littlebig planet 450mb,ratchet and clank nearing 200mb,AVP 250mb,Need for speed most wanted 200MB,N+ 25MB so there are very good small yet awesome games.
I recommend at least a 4gb mms. (bare minimum 2gb) smaller can fit some games, but others are upward of 1.3 gb, and you dont wanna miss out on those titles. Also room for saves, movies, emus, homebrew, pics, music, etc- You will fill up even that 4gb pretty fast. if you can manage to find a bit of cash, go for a big mms!
