I've been working on an idea for a game I want to get published for the DS systems...but to start I want to make it into a ROM, free of charge for people to enjoy so I can make sure it would sell good (other wise I'll have to pull a few more projects out of my hat and make them too). I don't know a lick of game programming or ROM programming for that matter (Seeing as this is an all original game there would be no template from other ROMs.) The problem is I don't know who I can and can't trust. No offense, cause you all are friendly people. I just don't want people taking credit for a project I started in 2009. A few personal contacts I know up in New York are too busy to help me, and I don't have the time to learn coding, so I'd like to make sure I can find reliable people to help build a ROM for this game so it can be made, before I even think about going to Nintendo to get a game published on an actual console (I'll hold a Non-AP Copy of the ROM behind their back too, for anyone who wants to enjoy the game who never buys games). Any honest help would be appreciated.
a project does not forcefully needs a programmer, if he has an script and can find some one to help onto te programming,a little like the bakuman manga one guy writes the history the other draws the character
If you're confident your game will make it, a good idea would be to actually hire programmers. Of course, time is running out for you. The 3DS is coming, and we won't know how it affects the DS economy...
Well the 3DS is gonna be like the DSi and DSi XL. Anything made for the original DS and DS Lite will be playable for it. But just to be safe I can make two versions. There isn't going to be any DSi Camera exclusive features in it though. But in reference to S.I.R.'s question, I just drew up the plans and blueprints for the game. From the game modes to multiplayer to the CPU difficulties. Nothing program based...just everything a programmer would need to know. And in reference to Zyadine, I am concerned about if it will or won't sell which is why I'd like to make the game and then see about porting it to see if it sells or not. I'll have to look into programmers though I suppose.
As it stands, you have two options: - Hire programmers. Unless you know people that can program for something like this that are willing to work for free, and soon, you're gonna be out of luck. - Wait. You simply wait for the homebrew scene for the 3DS to emerge. See if you can get some up and coming programmers for the 3DS to grab hold of your idea and run with it. If you can find people that are willing to do it for free just for the chance to experiment on the new system, they will probably work for free, or on a donation system provided you set one up for those interested to donate. Those are your two basic options. Mind you, the homebrew scene for the 3DS probably won't kick start for between a year and two after it's launch, so you would probably have time to undertake this project provided you took option number one. If it's going to be something you foresee taking years in length to reach completion, I would highly suggest waiting for the 3DS to see if you can take your project to the next level. You're talking about something semi-big though, and it isn't going to come fast, it isn't going to come easy. You would probably do well to maybe start researching some basic DS homebrew programming yourself. At the very least, it will give you the required base you need to kind of get the ball rolling on your own. It's hard to convince people to join in when they really don't know what they're getting into.
Well I wanted to make it so that it's compatible with all DS Systems from the 3DS to the DSi/DSi XL to the DS Lite. I know some people who are willing to program but they ask me to do research and I can't find what I need. If someone could teach me how to homebrew DS games OR link me to a tutorial I could do it myself though. I'll probably be out of luck though until I can earn some money to hire programmers.
