What should the settings in the cfw vsh menu be set to......

    cpu clock = default
    cpu clock = default
    usb device = memory stick
    umd iso = m33 driver
    iso video = NONE

    This is my current settings...

That's seems good, I'm using those settings too when I still use the 5.00m33-6.

    This is what I'm using.

    cpu clock = 333

    cpu clock = 333

usb device = memory stick (but I occasionally change this to UMD so I can copy games from the UMD XD)

umd iso = m33 driver (I occasionally change to sony np...something or rather-more compatibility with certain drivers-most compatible is UMD option-but needs a UMD inside to work)

iso video = NONE-never used it before.

The reason I use "333" as speed is because it allows the psp to run at max-but go to default if anything weird happens.

Also there is one other option you may like..if you find it in the recovery menu (Hold R when starting up) under configuration...

    -speed up MS

This allows quicker memory stick reading-the other options...play around with them-if you worried just let us know which scares you-don't bother with the other options here though-advanced users who like to hack things to an unrecognisable state only ;D

(the default back ground-the "waves" can be changed-I had a flame job that moved but it caused problems for my psp after awhile...but I since worked out what caused it XD)

I cant get the recovery menu,I didnt hold the button in after flashing,so when I try it now, nothing happens.

    ...

    Is the psp completly off?

Hold down the power switch until it's completly off.

Hold r before starting it up-and power it on while still holding r...

Awkward-but idiot proof method I used XD

(I thought I broke something when I didn't do it this way...)

The whole process was a nightmare.

tried to make mms,was problem with ipl,had backed up card but files took 30 mins to copy to pc
tried to remake mms,was no option to do it in pspgrader-was greyed out.
reformatt memory card using hp stick formatter-which put fat32 on it.
    used rains mms maker-that worked.
flashed it using pandora battery to install 5.00 m33-4 and rebooted.

never held in button and restarted-forgot that bit

    then formatted card
then reloaded 2.6gb of backup files vids/music etc back on
    then loaded update for m33-6

    wow...sounds annoying.

But i"d have used a empty memoery stick for the process-all the other stuff would have slowed you down.

Also-have you tried getting the recovery menu up-if something bad happens and you can get this menu-it means your psp can be saved...

When I tried altering the default background with a flame job-I screw up-all I saw was a black screen on start up.

Turns out the flame job was for older firmware-after a patch it was ready to go...but the psp was black.

Then I discovered the recovery menu worked despite the psp playing up-so I swapped out the altered file with a backup I saved just incase-and saved me paying $70 to get a "professional" to fix XD
