Only game I could think of right off was Dragon Quest Swords on Wii as there is a mask in it that was thought to contain the spirit of the main bad guy (demon) and once before kept the demon at bay and it is discovered and ends up possessing the queen with it which in turn causes chaos, later on the mask was used to once again to destroy the demon at the end of the game.
