i no longer have the aforementioned virus and it has blocked virtually all .exe files... I cant seem to get rid of it as all malware deletion programs are blocked. It also randomly opens IE and opens a site called porno.com which is really annoying.

i have another solution. start w/ safe mode and use malwarebytes. it worked for me.

can you use an online scanner such as www.trendmicro.com/housecall/ ? These scareware antivirus systems are an absolute bitch to get rid of. If housecall doesnt work I would suggest backing up your documents (don't back up any exes) and reformatting.

Norton is useless, don't bother with it.

McAfee is slightly less useless than Norton, but still useless (not surprising, they're both owned by the same company), The others I've never heard of, but myself I'd be wary of a chinese antivirus, since a large proportion of virii and malware originate from china. The best antivirus programs are generally considered to be Eset Nod32 and Kaspersky Labs, but an AV would likely not help the OP because the virus is blocking programs from running.

See you just mention the anti-virus programs which you see in-stores or on the telly. The ones that does better in tests such as NOD32 and Avira or even AVG might be better options.

Why not try to help the guy instead of slagging him off.All you needed to tell him was to try and rename the malware program in order to be able to launch it.

I suggest to reformat and use NOD32.

By far the best Anti-everything I've used.
