Im planning to upgrade my computer (again) and this time im getting a new cpu. Im needing one of the above models, with the E6 being prefered. They are outdated as hell but those are the best that my mobo will support (No way in hell am i using a Celeron) I know the chances of finding this cpu are slim since most of the sites i've checked have quit stocking them.
i can't find an EXACT core 2 duo, but i have found a few similar ones...i dunno if they use the same socket type or not, but here they are http://www.newegg.com/Product/ProductList.aspx?Submit=ENE&N=100007671%2050001157%20600005560&IsNodeId=1&name=Core%202%20Duo take a good look, and compare what you want...i dunno if any of those are compatible, so check them all EDIT: found more...i dunno if this is right since i dunno what Pentium D is, but these are pentium dual-core, tell me if i'm wrong -.-" http://www.newegg.com/Product/ProductList.aspx?Submit=ENE&N=100007671%2050001157%20600005572&IsNodeId=1&name=Pentium%20Dual-Core EDIT again: i found an EXACT item, it may be of use to you http://www.amazon.com/Intel-E6420-Dual-Core-Processor-LGA775/dp/B000O7KIDI
The first three won't work i think. My mobo was made before the e8x00 and e7x00 series was released and im pretty sure it would need a bios upgrade to support them. Although the pentium duel core might work. The series matches up (E6x00) but it looks like a diffrent model name. Here is a full list of the cpus that my comp supports. Core 2 Duo E6x00, Core 2 Duo E4x00, Pentium D 9x0 Dual Core, Pentium D 8xx Dual Core, Pentium 4 6x1 series, Celeron D 3xx series I don't like the Celeron series. I've had issues with that type in the past, and im using a P4 641 right now. Um... holy shit... i just checked the price on the amazon and... um wow... How the hell is the old E6420 $100 more expensive then the newer E8400 series? Well then again its Amazon and im comparing prices with newegg but thats not a good enough reason. I think i'll try the Pentium Duel Core E6500. Even if it doesn't work i could sell it to my ce teacher for $50 easily and just take the $30 loss. Edit - Im going from the comp specs, not the mobo manufacturers specs. I think i'll check with them instead.
Damn overpriced, outdated, peices of crap. I love my computer but im cursing the fact that its 4 years old. I'd like to run this comp into the grave (Like i did my previous one. I blew up a couple of the capacitors after 5 years of use) but im needing moar powa ta fire ma lazar more power to support newer software and stuff that takes epic amounts of power (Deseume for example. Right now it makes my cpu fan sing like a dying vulture when in use. Hell, my comp shut down once from Deseume overheating my cpu) In the end i'll proably just buy a new comp. Proably this one. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16883114085 I'd just pull my hdd's and vid card for a upgrade.
based on that, you could go a LOT cheaper have you tried a new fan for the CPU? cuz if it's getting that hot, your using a stock cooler, which isn't good and about that computer, you pulled that from where i posted in another topic
Really? Meh, that comp was on the list of three that i was thinking of buying. Didn't pull it from another topic, pulled it from newegg. Yah its stock cooler. But for normal use its fine and its served me well for 4 years. But it might be a good idea to pull it off and remove all the dust from it. Only thing is that the fan is a bitch to put back on, and its really annoying to remove and reinstall a cpu heatsink. I could apply new thermal paste as well. My only requirements for a new computer is that it has a minmum of 2 gb ram preinstalled with a max support of 8 gb ram, and a duel core AMD processor on a AM3 socket if i decide to upgrade with a tri or quad core. Othen then that nothing else since i'd pull anything useful out of my current comp (Vid card, backup hdd, lightscribe cd/dvd burner)
